Default 1999 Disco II transmission/front drive shaft problems

I recently purchased the Disco II and the previous owner advised that the transmission and front drive shaft will need to be repalced. This will be my first vehicle and need to know the following...fyi it has @ 89K miles.

[1] Do you think the shaft broke first and cracked the transmission or the other way around or does it really matter.

[2] Should I be concerned about the transfer case...it is not cracked from the visual inspection.

[3] any other issues that I will need to consider?

driveshaft broke and took transmission out with it. Search around here for driveshaft replacement info... it's very very common on the d2s... the 'sealed for life' ujoints give way and the driveshafts go out.

Transfercase should be ok.

Call Paul Grant or Will Tillery for a replacement used transmission to save tons of money!

As mentioned, the drive shaft is the problem. Considering ordering a new one from Tom Woods on line.
As for the tranny, how mechanical are you and what area do you live in?

I think I may have found someone who will do the transmission labor end of it for $150 - $200 and I am not that mechanically inclined...I probably could take the shaft...live in the Toledo, Ohio area....

ok, so I started to read and watch the MBL game tonight and I became confused while I read the steps to change the transmission - LRT-99-008A - some type of brace to secure the engine [??]. My question - do I need to purchase this item or can I or the person who will help me bypass and use some other type of brace? Also, I assume I should follow all the instruction to change filters etc...I probably sound silly but I have never changed out a transmission before but the instructions are pretty detailed and I hope we will not have any problems.....

you can use a floor jack to secure the engine.

Man, if you can get it installed for $150 jump on it! That is not so DIY..and certainly worth watching it happen with a beer in one hand.
