Default 2002 DII overheating...

2002 DII with 170k overheats and gets exhaust gasses in the cooling system. Is this an issue with the head gaskets?

Thanks.

Sure is. By your question, I would say you are not very mechanical, do you have a shop you trust? Get a couple of estimates before you have the work started so we can make sure you are not getting screwed.

It's not my truck, there is a 2002 DII for sale locally and the owner says it over heats and has exhaust gasses in the cooling system.

What is a 170k 2002 DII with the head gasket problem worth in your opinion if everything else on the truck is in good order?

Thanks again.

STAY AWAY!!!!! The D2 motor is very sensitive to block cracks when it over heats! You could land up doing the heads and still have the same issue

Try to get it dirt cheap because you have to assume it needs and engine.

Where are you located? Maybe someone on here can direct you to a good shop that can look into it for you and like Mike said give you a worst case scenario estimate.

Not much, realistically it's worth more broken for parts so for a fixer upper I would try to stay well under $1000. Ideally $500-600. The vendor won't like the sound of that but let him sweat it for a few weeks and he may come around.....or not. Either way don't pay any more, there are plenty to choose from.
