I would not think the hand brake would damage the diff or axels on any car but it happened to my disco. If you try to pull your parking brake on these cars it locks the rear wheels and does things that would not normally happen to other cars. I can only attest this from experience which is why we're here discussing a fix for it. If you trace the hand brake cable you will see it goes into the transfer case and I believe on most cars it goes straight into the rear brakes. I got side tracked yesterday and today but I will pull the axels tomorrow to get to the bottom of this, thanks again!

As most of you suspected, it was the differential! It looks like someone took a sledge hammer to it. The spider gears broke off and everything inside just got mangled up. I took some pictures so you all can see the mess I created.
I have contacted Will Tillery and will be ordering a used diff as soon as he calls me back.

Default Getting ready to install new Diff

Hello all, I got my new differential in and now I am going to do the install. I was going to use the following gear oil 75W90 and wanted to see if anyone else had suggestions/recommendations for regular everyday use and light motorcycle towing. BTW, for the gasket, I am just going to use 100% silicone to seal the diff since there was no gasket when I removed it.

all i can say is that is a god damn good parking brake to make a mess like that. NOTE to self: kill anybody that things it's funny to pull the parking brake in my disco while driving. +1, no gasket on the diff. I use castrol synthetic gear oil but really any gear oil will do.

I will add this to the defense of the parking brake. As I entered the freeway a while back (about a year ago) my rear right tire bumped the curb as I was traveling about 40-50 mph. Nothing happened nor did it damage the diff but now thinking back maybe that was what help start this mess and the Pbrake killed it off. Thanks for the oil tip, I'll use synthetic gear oil.
