Default 2004 discovery runs hot

i have 2004 discovery 32k 1/2 hour ideling gauge shoots red like overheating replaced thermostat got correct anti freeze fans work help

Watch your pressurized coolant tank. If it seems to lose coolant, look for a radiator or hose leak.

So have you had to add coolant, did you bleed the system?
Does your heater blow hot when your engine is idling?

Was the 30k mileage service completed at the dealer???

Could be the fan clutch is not working properly... It should spin with resistance when cold. When hot, it will also roar some and you can hear it from the passenger compartment... Does yours do this?

Maybe a clogged radiator...

same thing happened to me (but never went into the red zone) and the t/stat cracked and vent screw went bad... The heat from the idleing was making the temp. shoot up that high (the hot air from the idle does not flow well unless the vehicle is moving)... Best bet is not to let any vehicle idle for more than a few minutes...
