I am seriously thinking of trying to jam a Chevy 350 into my Disco2 if I can get it all to work- it's just rumbling through the thought process right now.
Has anybody done this???
STREET WOLF- I found your video of it, how hard was it?

Does anybody foresee any major problems- I'm guessing I will have to work all the way down the drive line with pretty heavy mods.
Owww.... sorry dude. Yeah it was a joke video. I still have the junk 4.0
The 350 that I used in that clip would unfortunately tear itself from the engine bay of the Disco under it's own power if it was real.
However if it does ever come to a point where I need to replace the engine, I will be doing a motor swap. It won't be with a 350 though, I'll be using a Buick 3800 engine.

There are adaptors out there from I want to say marks adaptors from Oz to mate the 350 to the Rover trans.
It has been done on RRC and D1 in theory it should be easier to squeeze into a D2 due to the wider frame rails. Hell people have stuffed 6.2 GM Diesels into Rovers. If you have the patience and some skill/big accounts it can be done.

Personally, I like the idea of having a 350 powered LR. Or, a 4.3L V6 (basically a 350 with two cylinders left off). When I got the DII with a known headgasket leak I thought about just doing a swap... then I learned that this just isn't a Land Rover thing to do.
Ah well, what do I know, I guess I've seen too many SB powered Jeeps and Broncos and figured this would have been well tread ground... but no, LR owners don't do this sort of thing!
And now that I've got a fixed HG... I won't be either, not anytime soon (hopefully!).
The small block Chevy isn't much different dimensionaly than the Rover V8. If you can weld, do it. I don't know about trans and transfer case though. You could probably use a 700R4 and a smart-trac transfer case out of an Olds Brevada or GMC Typhoon/Syclone. They seem to be plenty strong, I'm just not sure if the front driveshaft is on the correct side...

A Land Rover DII is roughly the same dimensions as an Early Bronco (66-77), this was a big reason for me looking at the rig in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a motivated person were able to swap an Early Bronco drivetrain into a DII, axles and all.
Basically, you'd end up with a 5-door Bronco with 20-30 less years on the frame and body. And... I think that'd be awesome! With Dana 44's you'd be able to run up to 35-37.5" tires, depending on your driving style.
I'm too new to the LR scene to know what the weak link is for a DII to run 35" tires. I don't know how strong the front and rear axle housings are, though I hear that the axles themselves don't like 35" tires. But, upgrading the axles shafts themselves isn't a big deal if that doesn't equal killing the diffs... and moving further upstream, if the diffs survive, does this equal killing the tranny or T-case? Ah... the fun of a new rig.
idid that ,, back in 1985 in a range rover classic, and was a nightmare... at the begining was greeat.. nobody beat me in power.. but in a year i broke the 3th diff, the clutch, too much power for the rest of the transs and transfer case.. i went back to the stock, if you want to race.. get a corvette.. land rovers are the best when they r stock... course you can mess with liftting and some tune up .. but keep it original..
I want to stuff a cummins turbo diesel into my rover. I would just love to take off and put a plume of black smoke from a chipped cummins diesel sittin in the engine bay. IT would also be loud enough to announce its presence at all times.

There is so much FAIL in this post I don't even know where to begin.
Ah well, you know those diesels blowing out all that black smoke from the exhaust is just a dead give away that the owner has no idea what he's doing, right?

I was in california about a year ago and I met a guy down there that had an LS2 in an 03' DII. The conversation didnt really stray past that other than he said it retained the transmission and transfercase the factory put in. Said it was worth about 400HP. Judging by the condition, and equipment on the truck, it wasnt used very much.
