Default TC,ABS,HDC lights on

Same thing happened to me today after a hard brake while going over a bump.Really scared me off, since I'm now going onto investing into a new set of cats. and can't afford to take it to the dealer right now.Turned off and on the ignition at the traffic light, went off for a couple miles then came back on when braking.Went home that way.Shut it off.Let it sit for 45 min, took off again and gone.Guess I will need to clean the grounds at the front of the air box as read previously.

Thanks,
Carlos

Default My ABS, TC, HD, and Brake Light Fiasco...

OK...I won't try to translate the LR-speak on my invoice, so maybe beezel can. Here's what they did for my Christmas tree dash a couple weeks ago...

Cause: Performed ABS diagnostics - 08,4 Front Right Sensor Signal Erratic; found rust & metal shavings inside R/F hub assembly; replaced hub.

020202 Constant Allowance - Separate Vehicle Visit to workshop
1924WRR97

70900501 Anti-Lock Braking System Diagnosis
1924WRR97

602502 Hub - RH - Renew
1924WRR97

Beezel? I don't really see what they did to the ABS...looks like they replaced the hub, unless the hub includes the ABS sensor?

Forgive me if I sound like an idiot...I have no experience with ABS-related issues...

Again guys, with the Land Rover ABS system there are many, many things that can cause the lights to come on. There is NO WAY to determine what is wrong without the proper software (way too expensive to purchase). It can be something as simple as needing new brake pads (been there done that) to a new modulator (been there done that too). It can be the hubs, sensors, modulators, shuttle vales, etc. There are some independent shops that have the software, you will just need to find them. I've had my codes read but it still cost (m)e $60.00 even at an independent. I can tell you that the repairs were HALf what the stealership wanted to charge. If you do find an independent shop, post their name and city on the LR sites and you will most certainly get feedback pretty quickly as to whether they are a good shop or not.

Sorry If I am being redundant, but I ordered the "green stuff" (brake pads)from "Perfect Brakes". I also ordered the dimpled and slotted rotors.
I am not doing this to correct the HD, ABD and TDC lights being lit...but I am hoping that as a by product, this install will help that situation.

My pads are low (not dangerously), but the rotors have developed "lips", and I have noticed a low growl coming from the wheel area whenever I apply the brakes. While there is no metal to metal contact on the brake pad surface with any of the rotors, it appears that the bracket for the caliper may be touching the lip of at least one one worn rotor....that I suspect is the cause of the growl.

Based on the attitude of the vehicle I do not suspect wheel bearing failure.
In any event I will know by Tuesday of next week when i put the new rotors and pads on.
I will post the results then.

Thanks again.

The hubs contain the inner ring that the sensor reads. ALso the hub and sensor do come as unit.

They get contaminated and sensor reads wrong. Unfortunately no way to know if its the ring or sensor.

Another member of our LR club (who recently signed up on this forum) came up with the idea of collecting opinions and perhaps even signatures for a petition to LRNA regarding this issue. If you're interested in putting in your $0.02 cents, you might want to visit this blog we set up for this particular issue that concerns our DII's. There are a lot of topics about this particular system manufactured by Wabco but we're trying to organize everyone that have experienced this problem and perhaps even come up with something we can send to LRNA to prompt them to take a serious investigation regarding this issue.

LRE Blog

This is an excerpt of my comment on the blog. It is based on some research I did on the internet which you probably have come across yourself at one time.

"On the NHTSA site you can look up the two recall campaign related to this issue and enter the campaign number 02V022000 and 04V005000. There's a number to call to get the free remedy in the event you failed to take it in within a "reasonable time" (whatever that time is). Anyhow did you receive notification for any of these recalls? If not, then we might just have ours replaced based on these campaigns."

as long as a loss of braking power doesnt happen and or leaks no action will be taken by the govt. ITs an electrical part that is partial to dirt and water intrusion that causes problem.

Unless they switch to a different set up say like a ford that uses an exterior ring stuck on the CV joint that is removalbe then no action will be taken.

It rained a few days ago and tried the low tech way of checking to see if I had an ABS sensor problem. I dumped the brakes while doing about 35 MPH (on a side street no cars of course!). The Left front wheel was the only one that locked and skidded.
Today I had it diagnosed and confirmed. Yep...it is a left front wheel sensor fault code. I was told that there was an outstanding recall (on my vehicle, an '01 Disco) that may fix my problem....if that recall campaign does not fix the problem I will have to buy a sensor. The lights have been reset.
I will post the recall code here when I take it in to the stealer... whenever that is.

Default HDC, ABS, TC lights

I have a 2000 disco and for two years these lights have been comming on every couple months for no reason. After I turn the truck off and restart it the lights remain off. I finally got fed up with this and started looking on the internet and found that this model year had a recall out for this reason ( amoung 4 other recalls ). It said that the ABS sensor could become dirty and give a faulty signal and set off the warning lights. I took the truck in to the local LR dealer in Nashville and they kept the truck for two days and said they fixed all the recalls. Not 4 days later did the lights come back on when I applied the brakes when exiting the interstate off ramp. The lights dont cause any problems other than they are annoying to look at when they come on and the truck still drives the same. Its too much of a hassel to take the truck back to the dealer to have it "fixed" again. I guess its one of those quirks that Ill live with.

Alright guys....time to update.....I can say "ouch" but its cheaper then a dealer.

Came down to $609.

Complete oil pan and pickup clean + oil flush
Oil change Mobil 1 full syn + (non-stock) filter
51k mile checkup stuff....mostly just power steering fluid flushed
Codes read on vehicle and reset ABS and stuff.

...what ended up happening is that somehow I tripped the code on the rover that made it think that it had Air suspension....eventhough it never did. It couldnt detect the air suspension so it was blowing a code and lighting up the warning lights. The red oil pressure warning lamp is now gone also.

Soon after the SRS airbag light came on.....I restarted the car and it was still on so I hit the pass. airbag twice and funny enough it went off.....not the best way but sometime it works..

anyone notice the new replacement sensor comes with a harness that goes from the hub all the way to the slabs ecu? A problem always has a solution and the factory never got a real hold on this one. the hub has such small teeth that the sensor needs to read, that something as stupid as incorrect pad material can cause a harmonic vibration that it will pickup, stick with the factory pads and replace the sensor with the new part, if that dont work it will need the hub.
also the slabs ecu can get funky about whats out back if the battery goes dead or something like that.

2000 Disco II
My 2001 came up with a diagnostic detailing a need to replace an ABS manifold (previously a $2500 part, but now reduced to $800 by LR lower the replacement level) and a wheel speed sensor. Sounds like a nice $1000+ problem. Can anyone give me a price check on this? I suppose I'm stuck with the factory supply chain and repair network.

Where did you learn about this ABS item being covered by recall? The dealer I saw made no mention of it being covered by the factory.
