Default Air Suspension

Yesterday would make the second time that my wife called me to tell me the rear pas. side sagging when she was about to leave work.

It inflates right back up. I left it for 2 days the first time and all day today (about 25hrs now) and it doesn't seem to be lower at all. It seems pretty random and isolated event. The first time was about 10-14 days ago??

Is the the begining of the end for that air bag?

Any input of how to isolate what it is and how to fix it would be great.

**I don't think its related but I just posted another topic about a little rubber hose on that side that came off from somewhere. It runs up by the fuel door.

And again, thanks in advance.

Don't do the slime thing, at some point it will get back into you control unit and valves and there goes the ball game.

what ever...

Of course if someone was to fill the whole thing up with slime it would surely get back it to the compressor or what ever is on the end of the little supply line!
Only a Googan would do that!
you only need a little bit to coat the inside of the air bag. The leak is probably rear facing inside, at the very bottom of the fold...take some dish soap with water and spray a little on the spring and see the pretty bubbles
...follow the steps in the previous post and go roving!
You only need about an ounce to fix it. It is a fix, it's cheap and it works...
Experience, No "ear say" here. Going on 2 years...

I used to love the comments that you'd get when you got back to the car after it was parked it a sitting position.!!

Why not just do it right and buy some $129 bags from Arnott and be done with it.

$121...per side!
....Good Rover, Good Sit!...that was my answer to all the comments...
anyway it is a breeze to change them if you decide to, just follow the steps in the previous post , at the right time you'll figure out when to put the new baggies in.

Guess what - 2000 D II 94k miles - saggy bottom !. both sides, slow drop and compressor only runs a couple of times a day. Thought about spring conversion - and slime, but Ollie, to get the slime in you seem to have to do 90% of the work to fit new airsprings - so that's what I'm going to do. Stealer wanted $1400 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and charged me $170 for the diagnosis (I was hoping it was seals of something other than springs)

1400 bucks.

the job pays only 3 hours.

funnest part is I can kick them out in forty five minutes if I am slow.

put it on a two post lift, cut both airlines and break the clips on the bags, take them out and the drop the shock mount bolts let the thing sag and put the new bottoms and new springs in and then jack the axle back up and install the bolts.

real easy. In fact you can get the parts at the dealer without issue.

I do a set at least once a month.

not for you, for me yes.

we can use a handheld test book device to turn it over to coil. no matter what you have to go to the dealer.

but if the bag is leaking its just as easy to replace, just dont cut the hose, and use a ten mm to take off the connection.

Hello Rovin4life

Jusrt bought a 99 Disco II and love it. Was wondering if I can use two heavy duty jackstands and a heavy duty lift in place of the two post lift to change the rear bags????

don't forget to mention that the vehicles equipped with airbags did not come with threaded nuts welded to the axle. At least on my vehicle the nuts were there, welded to the axle, but NOT threaded. You'll have to tap the nuts to accept the bolts to attach the bottom spring perch or use thru bolts. You can buy the conversion parts from atlantic british, rovers north or expedition exchange (probably others too).

also, rovin...
if you are planning on a 2" lift while you are at it, the rear end does not sag enough to avoid the use of a spring compressor. Possibly becasue I have ACE. not sure. but it definitely does NOT sag enough to put in a 2" lifted spring. You will have to compress the spring AND/OR disconnect the sway bar, and possibly even the watts linkage (not sure about that last one). Still a pretty easy job though!
