Default Anybody buy the head gasket kit at roversnorth.com?

Hey all,

I am in the middle of tearing down the engine to get to my valley pan gasket. I am going to change all of the gaskets when I start putting it back together again. I am moving kinda slow at disassembling since I only have a couple hours here and there, but luckily I am patient. I don't know if I will attempt the head gaskets though as I am only armed with a little hands on mechanical experience, common sense and the RAVE manual. I would like to know if I can rely on the head gasket kit that rovers north sells?? Anybody buy it and have problems since it isn't straight from Land Rover? Also, do I need to change out the bolts as well, or can I keep the same ones. Thanks for your advice.
Can't wait to get it on the road again!!

You need to replace the head bolts when you do a head gasket job. The kit doesn't come with it?
Call Will Tillery, he'll have the full kit for you at a more then likely better price then RN.

Shouldn't be a problem to use their kit. As mentioned, install new head bolts, t/stat and up-grades upper radiator hose with the bleed screw in the "TEE".

Luckily this has already been done. I'll give Will a call in the morning. Thanks for the input.

If you can take pics and docuemnt the steps I can trun it into an online tutorial. But that can slow things down considerably I know...

I'll consider doing that. I'm at a standstill till I find an 8mm 12point slim socket so I can get the rocker covers off. Looks like I'm going to sears today, doh!

HA! Sears is fun!

That can be a project killer the one time single use tools that now clutter the workbench!

I only got to one part that confused me so far and that was when I lifted my upper intake off (keep in mind I went completely step by step in the manual) and I notice 2 green electrical wires on either side of the intake were holding it back from being lifted off. My hubby helps when I ask and he said it would be best to clip them and reconnect when we get to that point. I don't recall seeing any part in the manual about that. I often wonder what all has been changed out before I owned the truck. I got it at 50,000k. It should have been under factory warranty with the prior owner.

Does anybody know if Land Rover can give me a history of maintenance or repairs done before I owned it?

I called my not so local Land Rover dealer and they just asked for the last 6 numbers of the vin # and faxed me all the info they had on it. It's not completely detailed, but I can call and get that info if I want it. So cool! Although when I see that it's been in the shop almost every month it makes me cringe

Hey, I'm doing the same tear down on mine. Couldn't find a 1/4 drive 8mm 12pt socket that would fit into that groove on the rocker cover so I had to get creative.

I ended up taking one of the 8mm wrenches in my ignition wrench set (come as a little bag with about 8 wrenches in it) and bent the 8mm 12pt end of one 90 degrees so that the wrench is now L-shaped. Fit perfectly and was easy to take the bolt out to finger tight.. now it is in my little bag of "Only for the Damn Disco" tools

Not sure if you still need it but hope it helps you or anybody else that might run into that problem

Thanks for the tip. I went to Sears, Advance and Autozone today and they don't make it. This may be my only hope if I want to move past this step instead of trying to find one.

sears (craftsman) does make an 8mm 12 point socket. You just need to look at the display rack harder. You can also use a 5/16" 12 point socket.
