Default Anyone know where to get "helper" air springs???

Usally I'm down in my cave in classic-ville but today i'm looking for helper springs for my dads disco 2. He doesn't want to fix his stock suspension anymore (usally just fills it with slime and it works for a while) Hes going to change over to coils but still has to tow quite a lot with the truck. I heard "helper" air springs somewhere a while back and now i cant find them anywhere... any information on where to buy them or whats a better product would be a great help. thanks you all, wishing everyone a very muddy season.

I think I read somewhere that Steve at D.A.P. had some or was developing helper air springs.

Tell your Dad to not be so cheap and replace the bags for $129 a piece. Slime isn't even close to a fix and new bags will allow him to handle more weight then coils and some cheapy insert bags with alot less effort.

Air helper springs have been around for a long time over here and have proved very good. Do a search on "Polyair". There is a company in the US making them now and they are quite cheap. I think it is Firestone and the bags are blue. But doing a search on Polyair should bring up references to the US made ones. I know that the US version was discussed on the local Landrover's Owners club forum about 6 months ago as someone had imported and fitted them. So you might try a search on the forum at www.lrocv.com.au

You can also get aftermarket airbags that are stronger and cheaper than the originals.

It's not a question of price, well... it is... I is cheap!
I take my Landy out in the woods once in a while, and I hear that having springs versus the air bags gives a little better articulation.
Now I tow a lot and heavy on the tongue weight too.
So I thought...Springs PLUS helpers would give me springs for articulation and air when towing so that my headlights don't point to the sky.
So price would be a concern, but I would have to find springs AND helpers.
Then I would want the helpers to fit the compressor harness so that it still works.(this wonderful self leveling feature)

BTW...Slime works really well.

The bags wear out at the fold on the bottom. They are easy to fix, I have had slime in mine for over a year now. The driver's side since summer before last and the passenger side maybe last winter. Last week it must have ran low, a little leaks out over time, all it needed was another shot. maybe 6oz...took 10 Min.
Maybe the slime freezes or degrades over time.
But if you get stuck one day and you have to order the part and wait before you get it, Slime IT!
Losen the wheel before you get it off the ground,
Jack the car up from the (frame) Put another jack under the axle,
lose the Wheel, Unclip the top of the bags, 2 clips,
Lower the Axle jack, push the top of the bag down.
Twist the bag at the bottom
Unscrew the air hose, add Slime
put all back together And voila, good for another year!
Cost $ 7.99

In regard to where you get them and price, try here:
4121 Firestone Coil-Rite Rear Air Spring Kit for Coil Spring Suspensions
For $90, they are hardly expensive

There is a place in Albany, NY called Albany Spring. They sell helper airbags for pick-ups not sure if they have other applications, but they are a great place to work with and do an excellent job. I had them replace my leaf springs on a ford pick-up not long ago and they are very good. Do a search for Albany Spring and you'll find their site.
