Default Break Switch

02 Disco here,

How important is it to have a spare break switch for a Series II Disco? I've heard stories; just don't want to get stranded for something that stupid.

"Break" switch...nice play on words, because they do seem to break pretty often. I ordered my second one in 18 months this week since I was having intermittent difficulty shifting out of Park. Before the new switch arrived, the switch failed completely leaving me stranded at work. I was curious, so I decided to take a look at the switch and see what the problem was. The switch is very simple internally and the contacts seemed free of corrosion. I noticed the plunger that makes contact with the brake pedal was stuck in. I pulled the plunger out, pushed it in and out a few times, and reinstalled it. Everything is fine now.

That being said, autopartswarehouse.com carries the OE Land Rover switch for $11.95, though the picture they show is not it. I’m keeping it in the glove box, because I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before it fails completely.

It is a cheap part and wouldn't hurt to have one close by cause they are prone to failing.
