I was reading some info on the CDL on the 99-01 Discos... They have the Lever but it doesnt go into the Truck... So someone said that you can just buy a lever from the 04 and Install it into the 99-01 and you have a CDL.
Has anybody read this? I would love to do this to my truck but Im not sure if its ok? What have you guys heard?

Sweet! Did you use the 04 linkage kit? I found one here with the Install Photos on the bottom of the Page.... https://www.expeditionexchange.com/kit/

I didn't see any installation instructions, but yea that's what I used. I got it from a junkyard for $150. Last time I was at the dealer, I asked about that mechanism, and they said it was about $450, so I'm not sure where they get $700. Do a search on here or on discoweb.org for CDL and you'll find all the info you need

$450?!?! I made one for like $20...and its as tough as anything out there I'd bet.
If you are gunna get your hands dirty putting it in..all you need is a hack saw, a round file, a drill and a rivet gun and probably a few other little things...which you'll need most of those anyway, and you can make your own. Just get some steel and rods and use your imagination...it'll be sweet I swear. Or just buy a 10mm wrench and leave it in the truck...is 30 seconds of convenience realy worth $450? I think you should be setting the CDL before you get into serious offroading, so you'll never have to lay in mud to put it on. Just my thoughts tho.

To be able to engage/disengage at will from the comfort of the cockpit is worth it to me, but I only paid $150 for mine. I've used it a few times here in the city during some snow storms where the side streets were covered in deep snow, but the mainstreets had been plowed down to the pavement. It was certainly nice to activate the lock through the deep stuff and then shut it off on the pavement.

Roverlandparts.com and buy the old style, D1, for $150 and an 04 style, when they have them for under $400. Mike |

Yeah Ive been searching online and I can get one for pretty cheap... I bet around 200...

I went to Roverland
It was $299 I think. It was WELL worth the money to have a factory part that works PERFECTLY. The D1 parts new are approx $135 if you can source all the parts. You can do it used, but it is a pain in the butt. Once it is installed, It doesn't work half as well as the 04 mechanism. It still works though! Anyway, all the above mentioned techniques work well except for the guy who said to crawl under the truck and do it manually. You will end up not switching it when you need it most. The exhaust is very hot as well. Pain in the butt to do! good luck!
