i have the little self made lever to engage my cdl. if i engage it after the truck is running does it dissable the abs/tc? i have heard that engaging after does, but i am not sure? do i need to engage with the truck off to ensure my tc is working?

If you do not want to disable the ABS/ETC/HD, engage the CDL when the engine is running. After engaging the CDL, if you shut your engine off for any reason and restart it, you'll lose your ABS/ETC/HD.
The best thing to do is rewire your "difflock" light to bypass the computer so that you do not have to worry about disabling the "trio" at all.
Before I rewired my light, I had to keep my engine idling in the middle of a trail without the option off shutting the engine off. It was a pain on hot days with several rigs on the same trail, also a waste of gas.
I am of the belief that it is better to have the option of running with or without the ABS and TC. There are times when you don't want ABS off the road, especially when backing down a steep hill backwards.
You sure don't want the TC if you have one or two lockers.

Well, then the best way to disable your ABS would be to wire in a switch to the difflock light circuit, not switch your engine off and back on again.
To the original post, from your signature an pic of the black Disco, it is a 2001 vehicle which will NOT have the center diff lock lever. That little lever ahead of the shifter is simply for shifting the transfer case from high, to neutral, and to low (forward.) It is my understanding (per LR factory manuals) that all 1999-2003 Series II Discoveries did NOT come with the diff lock lever. However, all Discovery II's still had the center diff lock mechanism, which could be locked by crawling under the truck and using a 10mm wrench to manually turn a bolt, locking the diff. If you did this, an orange warning light in the dash would light up, signalling the diff was locked. Additionally, locking the center diff would disable ETC completely and semi-disable ABS.
However, I know it is possible to rig up a linkage from the diff lock point under the truck to inside the cab. (Disco I lever / linkage?) But I think that still disables ETC.

Band? in the 5th and 6th grade, I played the drums.. well the snare anyway.. drove my parents nuts. My band director back then was a freaking lunatic. He'd get so irrate with our class that by the end of the session, he'd have these huge white dried saliva chunks in the corners of his mouth from yelling at us the whole time.. ahhhh the good old days when teachers could yell at students

Drum655- my apologies for the misunderstanding. But I am curious about ETC working in conjunction with the cdl. I understand the system to automatically shut off etc / abs whe the cdl is on because of false readings created by the cdl keeping axle speeds the same. Have you gotten ETC to actually work while the diff lock is engaged? Does the orange light come on? With cdl and ETC, it should be unstoppable!
Being used to Range Rovers (Classic & P38) with viscous couplings on the cd, they seem to go through deep snow as if it is dry. With this DII, ETC is on quite a bit and although functional, it is a different feeling.
