Default Cruise Control and Fuel Economy

I have heard that using cruise control in other vehicles helps improve your mpg, I just got my disco and I have used the cruise control a few times and noticed that it 'jumps' a lot. It accelerates rapidly than other cars i have driven. does anyone know if using the cruise control in the disco helps save fuel?

At what speeds are you using it at?
You may have a vacuum leak causing it to fail or your vacuum pump may be going bad.
What year is the thruck?

Keeping your RPM low on the highway is what keeps your MPG down and since your cruise control is only concerned with how fast your going and not really caring what RPM it takes to keep your speed consistant using you cruz is not a good way to save gas.

also it doesnt have anything to do with your cruise and i cant site my source because
i forgot where i read it but i read you can raise your MPG on the highway by not going any faster than 65mph.
