D2 SLS air suspension troubles, FL9 30amp fuse keeps blowing
Hey,
I'm a newer member Crumds. I have a 2000 Disco2 with 125,000 or so on it. My suspension is depressed in the back, compressor wont run at all. I replaced the compressor 16 months ago and the air bags 24 months ago. The fuse link #9 under hood for the SLS keeps blowing? I haven't checked the relay (R5 under hood) and don't know how? Also I noticed the cover came off the compressor sometime ago and I live in Minnesota i.e. salt snow and sand. Not sure if the compressor went again? Anyways has anyone had a similar situation and how did you trouble shoot this? Do you think its a short in wiring? another bad compressor? or a bad relay (do these go bad)? Any help would be appreciated, sorry I'm not the best with electrics but have a multimeter. I searched the forums but couldn't come up with anything related to the fuses.
Thanks, CRUMDS
First, quit installing new fuses, you are going to take out a harness. Do you have a warning light on the dash, are you trying to raise the rear with one of your doors open and was that a new or used pump you installed?

Welcome to the forum. I had a similar problem a while back. Ended up pulling the air compressor apart and discovered a rusty mess. Mine appears to have sucked water in through the air intake behind the left tail lamp. Ended up replacing compressor. Good luck with it. I personally like the SLS or I would have trashed it years ago. Pain in the ars but is excellent when working.

Thanks Sjobey, did yours blow a fuse or go out completely? I just went back out to the garage, without the truck running it sounds like the pump is making some sort of ticking noise.

Its a new pump not used. I have kept the doors and hood closed when checking height and there are no warning lights on. Also could this be related to the SLABS ECU at all? Also this "new pump" looks pretty rough now, probably having gone through the winter. Thanks,
My pump was making an irregular ticking noise as well. What it ended up being was rusted and broken spacers between the magnets on the motor. As the armature tried to spin it was hitting the broken spacer and making a clicking noise. I could not find any replacement spacers so I replaced the whole thing. Found one on ebay. Now I have spare parts
