I have a question I know has been asked many times I'm sure. I am intersted in lifting my disco 2 two inches and I was wondering if the spacers you can buy for springs are the same spacers I need for SLS bags. I relaced my shocks with OME a few weeks ago and I could not figure out how you could install spacers under the air bags. One last question, with a 2 inch lift is there anymore wear and tear on driveshaft joints than no lift at all. I had to replace my front driveshaft about 6 months ago at $700 and I don't want to do that again. I have also heard of cheating the SLS senors. Is this a good idea?

Scott, as a D1 owner, I can't answer all your questions but I can say, however, you should be pretty safe with a 2 inch lift on a D2. Although every vehicle is different, you should be OK with wear and tear under normal driving conditions and a little bit of offroading. Some vehicles do OK with a 2 inch lift and need no more mods - like mine, I was lucky - others need more mods, such as new driveshafts and so forth to accomodate for the lift. Every vehicle is different so just do it and see what you need. If it drives different than before - and it will - what I mean is, if it drives poorly such as wandering or a lot of shaking, just let us know and we can help you solve it. Good luck!

Scott, I have a DII & for awhile rode OME suspension up front. I had SLS in rear & instead of spacers just tricked the system 'up' in back to match ride height of the front OME springs. I had NO PROBLEM with this set-up and rode it for about 2 yrs on trails all over Colorado. You can do this by adjusting the height sensors on the SLS, and adding OME shocks in rear. If you have a good indie shop by you they can do this very easily & you won't have any performance issues. Only problem w/ the SLS spacers is that when you switch to 'off road mode' your rear will be way up in the air. I always found that kinda freaky on steep descents. Another option is to remove the SLS system entirely & replace with OME springs. Just depends on how much you want to mod. The only thing you need to do this are the spring housings for rear axle and appropriate brackets for housing on frame. Also will need to have the ABS reconfigured for springs vs. SLS.

I have a 00 Disco II and installed two inch spring spacers myself. Back is real easy but front is pretty difficult. Everything seems fine except for the stock shocks in the rear. If a go over a speedbump or a big dip in the road the rear makes a loud popping noise. Im thinking its the rear shocks bottoming out when the shocks are extended fully. Installing the 2 inch blocks, the shocks are pulled two inches longer at normal ride height. This is just my thoughts. Does anyone have a sugestions on what the popping could be?

Go to RTE and buy their SLS spacer kit for the rear, which will include thier new height adjusters, www.rovertym.com/ .
It is a real easy job. Stay away from front spacers if you have not replaced your stock springs first cause all you will get is a lift on top of an already weak set of shocks and springs. Make sure you replace your shocks when you do the lift, they are most likely alread warn and it would be good to replace them now. As for the front, do your self a favor and replace your front springs, they have already started to sag which is normal for Rovers. Go to, www.expeditionexchange.com/ search out their information on OME spring replacement and you will get all sorts of new info. I am currently running a 3" lift on my SLS DII using the rear spacer and new EMU shocks and springs in the front. Good luck, Mike J. |
