Hey everyone!
I know this is going to sound stupid, but... what are lifters? I hear everyone talk about them, and I have no idea what you are talking about! What is there purpose? Thanks!! John-Robert

Check out this site on lifters: http://www.answers.com/topic/hydraul...cat=technology
Ticking from the valvetrain is never healthy. You never know what is going on inside the block unless you open it up. I know first hand, my blown head gaskets revealed bent valves, which vented exhaust gases into the crank case. The block was filthy with sludge and burnt-on oil. Yet the oil changes were always a pleasant amber color after 3k... If you don't want to look, at least flush it. The above mentioned adventure happened around 80k. Mike, you mentioned 3 ways of using SeaFoam. I only knew about the induction variety. Could you post or point me to the directions on the other two? (gas tank + crank case). Thanks! |

One in a tank prior to getting out on the road for a good drive. I don't remember mentioning a third way. As for the crank case, if there is a problem I prefer the ATF flush, if no problem the a cquart of engine flush every three oil changes works great.

Mike is right again.
Tick is internal. I'm going to call the dealer. Hoepfully they won't give me the run around since its a 240mile drive to the dealership. At least they still pick up. I'm at 65k with a 100k warranty. It's been ticking since I got it at 18k first time I brought it up they said it was normal and probably the belts. I don't think anyone actually looked at it. Do you think the tick could have led to the tap??? I might have to swap back in the stock exhaust so there will be no doubt about what is being heard.

yeah i have a 2004 Disco 2 with 20,900 miles and my engine gets pretty loud until the engine is fairly warm. I am under the factory warranty still and an extended warranty. I am gonna get my oil changed again in early november (i changed it a few weeks ago and i hardly drive it), should I have the dealership investigate the problem sooner?

I also have an internal tick. I can't really hear it from inside the engine. Ii is distinctly differnt from the tap I get. The tick is sharp like a clock, and the tap sounds hallow. If I were closer I'd take it in. But I'll have a laundry list of things for them to look at when I take it in. ![]()
