Default Disco II Questions

I have been searching but need some difinitive advise.

From 99 did all Disco II have the 4.6 eng or did some have the 4.0?

Was the sticky valves link to only the 4.6 eng?

I have been looking at Disco's and leaning toward a I but I really like the II's however a little reluctant to jump in knowing a possible time bomb is out there.

TIA

I think all 99DII's had the 4.0 and it became in option after 2000 as an HSE with a 4.6... I've never heard of a sticky valve problem...

If you want to offroad more regularly and plan on doing a lot of maintenance yourself, go with a late model DI... If it's going to be more of a daily driver, go with a DII.

I thought the 4.6 was not in the D2 until 2003.

It wasn't.
The sticky valve issue only takes $5 a year to keep under control, just a good old engine flush. This has been an issue with Rover for years, and is no big deal.

Like Dan said.. 99-2002 were 4.0, the 4.6 was introduced in the 03/04 models.

I love my 99, but it seems to me the best of the D2s may have been the 04s.

The CDL lever and the 4.6.

If only it didn't have that funky SAI...

I also found out recently that the 03/04s had the axle breather lines extended from factory.

Nice...

Mine are all now in the engine compartment, but it would have been nice for all of them to already have been like that.

I've got an 03 and love it. I know you guys are going to let me have it for this but I feel that the 4.6 is still underpowered for the Disco. I mean yes it will move but still feels like it needs more. My guess is its the tranny too because its only a 4 speed and could really improve with a 5 speed auto.

I fitted a 4.6 into my 91, and it has plenty of grunt. I must confess being a two door does make the vehicle somewhat lighter.

Well my sticky valves equaled a $2000.00 valve job in my 4.0l '99 with just 45K miles. Nothing a $5 bottle of anything would fix. Have the vehicle checked out before you buy!
Good Luck!
