I'm new to the forum, not Land Rovers!
I'm starting the build-up of my Disco II as I have completed the 95RRC, and yes the "wildabeast" is my favorite. As for the Disco, I have ordered 2" spacers and shock relocation brackets from ToddCo, safari rack, 32" AT Tires, HID Headlights (just cuz they look cool), performance wise i think I'm going to start with the electrical system, since that's where I strarted with the Wildabeast! I will be replacing the battery with a dual set-up, beefing up the cables and terminal leads, etc. I was hoping you guys and/or girls would have some suggestions for high performance wires, plugs, and distributor and/or ignition amplifier? I have looked everywhere and really the magnecor wires is all I have found, other than plugs! Also, I have noticed an exhaust manifold leak, so while I have it off, if anyone could point me to performance headers for the disco, I might as well do it now. I have custom headers for the RRC but the company didn't have any for the Disco? I'm new to the forum but I have searched fairly diligently for the answers to the questions. Also, I'm in the Dallas area so if anyone is in my area give me a shout! I saw somewhere that there is a club mtg here in Addisson that I will try to make. Thanks, MonsterMaker |

If you are thinking about going cheap and using 2" spacers only on top of your old warn out suspension, this is a huge mistake. The end result will be like driving a top heavy brick off road, go can't throw spacers on with your old warn out coils, it just doesn't work.
By the way, what year is your D2? Might want to look under your hood before your order any of these performance parts, you don't have a distributor and don't need a ignition amplifier, you have a coil pack. Buy yourself a set of Magnecore 8 mm wires and either a set of Platinum Champions or some Plus 4's. By the way, do you have secondary air, if so the plug wires will be even harder to replace but can be done with out removing the intake. Consider flushing the engine and doing an induction cleaning to improve the performance. As for the dual battery set up, D2's have plenty of room, here is a shot of mine, shout if you have any questions. Mike |

My suggestions?
Suspension -- Go longer/stiffer springs and longer shocks for a lift instead of spacers, it'll be a better ride and give you more suspension flex. Look into Rovertym Engineering Engine: DII's dont have a distributor, they use a coil pack.. Best combination is Magnecore 8mm and Champion Platinum spark plugs.. Don't use the Bosch +4's spark plugs. Battery: I have 2 yellow top optimas and a TJM IBS to manage them.. the TJM IBS system is nice but overkill, wire it up to run in parallel, but with a switch to isolate incase you want to kill a battery overnight. Aedofab Off-Road Fabrications sells a nice dual battery tray for the D2.

It's an 04 HSE, damn the SLS! I had a complete flush when I got her home. 51,000 miles, I really don't plan on severe off-roading with her, that's what the RRC is for! I was reading about Nology plugs and wires, don't know if they make a set for the Disco II? So, back to my original thought process, what good are better conducting wires and plugs if the coil packs don't put out enough juice in the first place? I'm not saying they don't i just don't know jack about the disco's ignition system! Ahhh, but that's where you guys come in! Thanks.

So why are you down on your SLS??
Already gave the names of the best plug wires and plugs. Don't go getting exotic with this truck, learn what makes it tick before you do too much to it. Call Tony at Cerrone's, he has the plug wires, 650-365-4145 Mike |

That was something I was glad I did - got a feel for my Disco before putting a bunch of stuff on it.

Ive liked the SLS, (got some bags with a lifetime warranty from arnott), but I know a lot of people have gone to coils. If this is not your trail rig, Id stick with the SLS.
I was into performance cars before I got the disco, so I understand the want to "upgrade" there, but go ahead and put the "engine performance" thoughts to rest. The best you can hope for is to keep it running as it did from the factory. These engines just don't breathe well enough to gain anything there. |
