Default Disco Mass Air Flow

How do you know when your Mass Airflow Sensor is dead? My car will only run at low idle. Could this be TPS or MAF?

Either one of those sensors will throw a code when bad. Get your codes read and see what it is.

You need to be more specific, what year, how many miles, how low and when and do you have a check engine light on?

That code is not present, but the ECU currently installed in the truck is for the wrong year and the wrong engine...... This is becoming a real head ache!!

So, your ECU is from a truck from the wrong year and the wrong engine thats currently in your truck and it runs poorly?

That's correct. I bought the truck that way and didn't find out until after I had done a tune up and my local - non-rover mechanic could not figure out the reason it was running rough. None of the fault codes made sense, so I headed to the dealers. They made the discovery on the Discovery (har, har).

Last night I downloaded the service manual and the condition points to the MAF, but still no code.

So what exactly is the truck doing wrong?
By the way, there are 4 MAF codes and they rarely ever come up when the MAF is dead. Normally you will get either lean or rich codes for both banks, your exhaust will smell, either 3rd or 4th gear will have a shifting issue and your performance will fall off.

Does anyone on here know whay a Series 1 MAF sensor is soooo rediculously expensive???? Atlantic British quoted me $1350.00 as a wholesale price...... Mine was acting up awhile back and I cleaned it out and it has worked fine since but greater minds than mine have informed me it is sure to go bad soon.

Mike -- it's like your standing in front of my truck -- it was doing everyone of those things. I thought I would help things by cleaning it. Now it won't get over a thousand or so RPM....

I'm picking up a MAF tomorrow. Will keep you posted!!

Thanks again

Have you had anyone test your current MAF to verify it is bad and not an ECU issue?

Replaced MAF today - not much improvement. Dealer says there is a different MAF settings on the 04 ECU for 4.6L than the 02 4.0L.

I just replaced both the ECU and BCU with the correct year and engine size.

Truck is running better than ever.

Still seeing 2 codes after clearing.

P0102

P1884

From other posts, I see that both codes are related to the MAF. I replaced with one from a salvage yard...

Would you recommend a new one, or look further?

Thanks

102 is a MAF low input circuit, if replaced, the 1884 will go away automatically.
