I am relatively new to LR's. I have a 2002 DISCO and at speeds of 75 or greater the front end moans and groans and I can feel vibrations. The local LR dealer tells me it's the driveshaft but it is not rusted or cracked and everything looks good to me. They also told me that this is just the way LR's are. Are these noises normal?
Second, at idle the 4.0 engine makes an annoying ticking sound that they have also told me is normal. Is this true? The Disco has 47K miles on it. Yes, I'm a LR rookie.

Your engine noise could be the result of noisy tappets. Check the dip stick and see if the oil level in the engine is correct. If it is low, top it up. If this does not solve the problem, then perhaps the oil filter could be clogged. As for the groaning sounds, it would seem you have something loose, or something rubbing. Do a simple test. Bounce the front of the vehicle up and down a number of times and see if you can locate the source of the sound.

Remember this:
The only normal thing you can always count on with ANY Land Rover is that they leak. That's all I have to say now.

did you test drive it with a technician.
just in case go with a technician or a service writer at the speeds you described so they can tell you if its really normal or not. its possible they may not be driving it and just saying its normal. and at this point without hearing anything I cant tell you what it is.
