Question Discovery II Porous Engine Block

I have a 2002 Discovery Series II TD5 automatic with ACE that I had inspected by the RACQ before the car comes out of warranty (just under 3 years old @ 38,500km) and the report noted oil leaks from transmission and engine. It also had a new gearbox under warranty @ 8000km. I took this to the Dealer, Austral Land Rover who pointed out that the vehicle had a porous engine block that required replacement under warranty.

Is this a common fault?

Additionally it has been using brake fluid and the brake pedal has a lot of travel, almost to the floor & can be pumped up. The brake diagnostic system at the dealer said everything was fine. I was sceptical, as I have had to refill the resovoir and this is not normal.

Any suggestions?

Porous engine blocks are not common and they do happen, I had one replaced years ago in a GMC van. Be glad they caught it.
As fot the brakes, that is a major problem. It is not normal and is dangerous.
Someone needs to make a visiual inspection of all four calipers, the brake lines, the ABS unit and the master cylinder to find the leak.
Be careful with it and get it into the dealer soon.
Good luck,
Mike J.
