Does anyone have a fuel consumption graph for a 99/2001 Disco II? I would like to know for example how much more gas mileage I get at 72MPH than at 75MPH. Mercedes used to publish this info in the owner's manual but I cannot find anything in the Land Rover manual.

There is no such item published by Rover.
There are way too many variables. What are you want to do or find out? I'll tell you, driving at those speeds won't help your mileage. What have you tried to do to improve your mileage so far? Mike |

I installed the tornado in all three Land Rovers about a year ago; cannot tell that it did any good. Getting about 11-12MPG in town and something like 17-18 hwy driving about 75-79 mph. All cars have new filters, plugs/wires OK or new. As gas prices escalate I am interested in better gas mileage. I can do a self test on the expressway at different speeds but hoped the figures might be published. I am aware of the typical reccs - no jackrabbit starts, proper tire inflation, etc. Wonder if the engine can be successfully detuned for better gas mileage.

I did did run across an article about this device a few months ago. I have no idea if it actually works or if there would be any detrimental side affects? Apperantly, it works by adding Hydrogen into the intake air/fuel mixture to suppliment your fuel usage. I cannot neccessarly condone such a device, but hey if you are desperate and drastically trying and get your MPG down then something like this may be the ticket. Try AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I have not actually seen any of these on any car yet.
http://www.hydro4000.com/default.htm Also, after market performance exhaust or intake may help it breathe a bit easier too ![]() Although, as previously mentioned, gas milage was not my biggest concern when I puchased my Diso. As long as it is generally with in factory spec, I am happy! |

How does the Discovery differ from these??? I am not arguing , like I stated, I use premium all the time, I just want to know what is different about my truck... My '06 BMW 330i also calls for premium, but the dealer told me they only run regular (87 octane here). Just curious...Thanks, Jonathan |

To add, I know the book says no use of octane booster protducts, but I have to ask: what is the reasoning behind this? I regularly fill up with premium as advised, but I have a discount available with with the mid grade only. I was thinking of getting that, plus adding octane booster? So far I have avoided it.. any thoughts?
Thanks! |

1: If your vehicle has a knock sensor, the computer will retard the timing with the use of a lower grade fuel to avoid knocking/pinging/detonation of the fuel. What is most noticable for you in this situation is a SERIOUS loss of power! 2: If your vehicle is not equiped with a knock sensor, it will be very unhappy, knocking and pinging along(especially under load).. that diesely sound you hear when this occurs is the sound of the fuel exploding in the combustion chamber instead of being properly burned. This can lead to very detrimental effects to your engine internal$$$. P.S. If your bimmer does not knock with low grade fuel, try a dyno test with both types.. you will never think of skimping with 87 again! Cheers! |
