I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE (not sure what series), but the automatic door lock has went out on the rear passenger side door. There isn't an option to open it manually with the key at that location so we haven't been able to use that door for some time but now we need to since we are preparing for our second child.
I've read some threads on here talking about an "Actuator"! I've located some used ones and am prepared to buy one if necessary, (Found Actuator Part). But is there any way I can just make that door manual lock and unlock? I have no problem pulling the lock up and pushing it down when needing to access that door. The door doesn't respond to the button lock/unlock feature on the car-key, and also doesn't respond to the cabin lock feature.
I really don't know what's the best to do at this time, as I said if needed I will get the "Actuator" for the door, but if possible I would just like to be able to manually unlock and lock that rear door on the passenger side. But of course if this isn't possible then hopefully the "Actuator" would do the trick.
Please feel free to give me any insight, advice, guidance, information, etc.. you feel might be necessary. Thanks for taking the time to help out.
First of all, you have a D2 model. second, how mechanical are you? You have 3 options, have a mechanic replace the actuator, BIG $$$$$'s install and new or used one yourself. I believe a new one is under $150 and guaranteed used on is $50.
By the way, have you had your front drive shaft rebuilt yet, if not and with more family this is extremely important cause they do fail and they can destroy your tranny also.

No I don't believe that it's been rebuilt before. I got it used and the previous owner was a company (Company car) so it is in very good condition to say the least.
I'm a very technical person when it comes to things like this, I guess i would just need the proper installation notes or assembly instructions and so forth. Do you have a link for where I can buy one from whether used or new at the prices you gave?

Roverguy.com for parts or Ebay there are many rover parts places.
(Edit) (soon discogirl4x4.com - will have some parts too)
Mods: Oil Pressure Gauge, ScanGaugeII, CDL, Electric CDL Actuator, RoverRacks Rear ladder, Limb Risers, ToddCo Front Drive Shaft, DI Wiper Arms, G4 Upper Rear Lamp Guards, No Amigos since 11/09
Coming soon: Install Greg Davis rear bumper, Replace 4 ball joints, Replace belt tensioners and pulleys.

You are taking over roverguy.com and selling his parts??
I can't find actuator removal instructions anywhere.
NO WAY he is KING! I called there last week about parts.
I will have a little store for common stuff and some used parts (I can get alot of 4x4 stuff at cost) . I have a garage full of stuff and spend waaay to many weekends at the pull and pay.

One thing you will painfully learn, is you never assume anything about a Rover, so when I or anyone mentions something you should do, do it or pay the price and it can be steep.
Most D2' front drive shafts fail because there are 2 u-joints that can't be greased. Usually they fail without notice and at $4000 plus for a repair, you should pay attention.
Throw you another one you should look into, and don't dismiss it as quickly as you did my advice on your drive shaft. 03's have been prone to blowing their engine because of a bad engine block molding which will cause the oil pump to fail. I would suggest you call your Rover service dept. and give them your vin number to see if your engine is on that list. If it is, there will things that you need to pay attention to.
As for the lock actuator, you can buy the used ones, on-line, at Roverlandparts.com.

see for things like actuators and any type of sensor I prefer new because as time passes these things basically will always fail. And given the pain in the butt job it is to replace a sensor, I say spend the extra $100 and get a new one.

Mike-
You put a scare on me about the drive shaft... My 04 has 70K on it and everything is maintained and in good shape. Mainly because I do things BEFORE they break. Would you advice on the drive shaft be the same on the 04 ? Same drivetrain. Can others weigh in ?
