Smile Drilling through engine bulkhead

I want to run a power supply with heavy duty cabling from the engine bay of my Disco II TD5 GS so that i can power an inverter. Does anybody know the best place to get the cabling through and have any ideas on the best place for the inverter.

Cheers, Medusan

First, you don't need to run that heavy a cable and second I would suggest you use an exsisting hole in the fire wall to prevent any moisture from coming in thru one additional firewall hole.
As for where to place the invertor, that would depend on your use.
How big an invertor are you going to?

This is a link for where to put it. You could also mount it in the back if you wanted to. I agree with Mike, use an existing hole, there should be plenty of room to run the wire through there.

Also, if you search around on the crutchfield website, you can determine what gauge wire you need to run, depending on how big of an inverter you get.

There are big grommets on the left and right hand side of the firewall.. I fit a 2 gauge wire through one of these without an issue.

Ahhh,

OK i will look a bit closer and look for a grommit with space - am I have bought a 600W 12V to 240V inverter - have not yet worked out what size cable i need - if any of you are quicker of the mark and have the answer i would appreciate it.

I had found the houston land rover site with the inverter position in the back - unfortunately with 3 kids in the back occasionally i think it would get hammered so am looking for something a bit more sheltered. At the moment i am thinking about going under the passenger seat somehow.
