Hi all,
The front sunroof has stopped working on my 03 discovery, the rear one works fine. I've tried the lock out button just incase it was that. when I press the button to open the slide and tilt sunroof I hear a clicking noise but nothing happens. has anyone had this problem? if so is it something I can repair or will it have to go into the workshop? it was working fine a few days ago. Thanks. |

Hey there - I dont claim to be an expert here but I have an 03 and my rear sunroof failed awhile back last year with exact same symptoms. Clicking relays when pressing switch. I thought it was a bunch of things, but ended up just being a burned out/bum sunroof motor.

If you hear clicking its usually just a bad motor or a stuck motor...i've had this happen with seats before. Im not sure how difficult the motor is to remove in these trucks, cant be much after removing the headliner, but replacement motors are fairly easy to come by, i've seen several on various sites...probably simple to replace...I wouldnt imagine its difficult enough to bring it to a shop to fix.

Thanks guys,
I thought the motor might have gone. I've had a look at the rave cd and it looks to be fairly straightforward. It says the over head storage compartment and motor casing needs to be taken off, then make sure the sunroof is completely shut which mine is, then unplug the 3 pin jack plug, unscrew the 3 screws holding the motor in place, refit the new motor making sure it’s set in the correct position (this is explained in the cd) then replace all fixtures. I hope it is that simple. Can anyone tell me if it is? |

Before you buy a used or new sunroof motor, easy way to test your's is to swap your front sunroof motor to the back one and see if you get the same result. Both motors are the same. Both Sunroofs Assemblies are the same as well.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your advise.
I was thinking of swaping the motors over but the rave cd says all the head liner has to come out to replace the rear motor and it's put me off. The motors in the uk are £165 new thats about 200 Dollars, any idea what they cost in the usa? |

Simple to Remove the Rear Motor / Without removing Headliner Board
#1) remove the Binder around the Opening of the Sunroof #2) remove the Sunroof Switch from the Plastic Console, under the switch is a Phillips head screw that holds the Plastic Console to the roof of the vehicle, unscrew it to release the console from the roof #3) Disconnect the quick release wires under the console. #4) At this point you should have enough room to get your tools in and remove you Sunroof Motor without having to Remove the Headliner Board. Gaining access to your front Sunroof motor is very much the same. #1) remove the Front Console and Binder for around the Sunroof, pull down on the front of the opening of your Headliner Board a bit and remove your sunroof motor. Used sunroof motors in good working condition run around $150 USD We have them in stock, just not listed on our website
