Exclamation Electrical disaster!!!Help ASAP

I need help ASAP! I recently purchased a 2000 disco II and love it. I have fixed the coolant leak at the throttle body and was about to fix the exhaust leak at the manifold when the thing wouldn't start last night. As I was trying to start it the hazards came on and wouldn't turn off. We ended up having to pull the battery cable just to get the hazards to turn off. It was dark while all this was happening so I thought I would address the issue first thing this morning but thought I might post a thread here first. I am waiting for the sevice manual I ordered so I have no idea where to even start. I was also having issues with the switch that turns on the lights mounted to my roof rack. I just figured that was minor and now in hindsight it might have been a clue to the bigger problem. Please Help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

dude, you tapped the inertia switch on the firewall. you should be fine. if its still going off check to make sure its not a bad wire from the inertia switch to the fuse box isnt corroded.

Reset the switch on the passenger side of the firewall, as mentioned, that should do it.
Did you bleed the air from the coolant system after fixing the coolant leak, make sure you do.

Yeah kinda figured out the inertia switch thing when my husband remembered that he hit it with a wrench yesterday! Thanks though. It seems to be running fabulously now. We changed the exhaust manifold gaskets on the right side and the donut but still have an exhaust leak. Appears to be coming from the seam where the flange attaches to the pipe. My neighbor said he can weld it for me,YEAH! We replaced the air filter with a K&N and changed the oil to 5W30 synthetic, since we had no idea what kind of oil was in there to begin with.
And how do I change the windhield wiper on the rear window? I really can't wait til I get the manual! Thanks for the help!

I would suggest you get rid of the K&N filter unless you don't mind replacing the MAF's at about $160 a throw.
Bosch MAF's can't/don't geal well with the oil residue the K&N will coat them with.

You know what 5W30 synthetic is?

Okay first...where the hell were you when I was wife shoppin'?
And secondly...
Your husband is a very lucky man. He has my utmost respect and I am Land Rover green with envy.

Yes I do work on it with him and Yes he is a VERY lucky man! Thanks for the advice about the K&N trashing the MAF. We are aware of the possibility of that happening as he has been running a K&N in his 03' Turbo-S Beetle for 2 years without any issues. His beetle has an almost identical bosch MAF which incidentally was the first thing he noticed when we popped the hood on the disco. But thanks for the warning, I'll definately keep my eye on it.
