Default Engine Blanket Removal

Hello All,

Due to the advanced age of my 99 D2, the engine blanket has come down with a bad case of the sags. Can I just remove this thing or does it prevent the ghost of Lucas from swooping down and causing an engine fire? I am just looking for one good reason not to remove it.

As this is my first post, a little about my truck. 117k on the clock, 2 radiators, heads rebuilt at 50k, and still on my original brake rotors. It has an oil leak that makes it messy on the front side of the engine, but it can wait until spring. Oh, and my A/C compressor fan and my CD changer is shot. It is still a great truck!

On my 89 Rangie it didn't have one.....no issues. On my 97 Disco I had the same issues as you, sagging and the like. Took that off over a year and a half ago with NO issues. The snow on the hood may melt a bit faster that is all. My truck is a daily driver and is taken offroad quite a bit. It's alot easier getting mud off from the underneath of the hood now.

The pad is primarily a sound deadening pad, the hood does stay cooler with the pad on.
My 99 still has it pad intack even after I have power scrubbed it a few times. If mine started to sag, I would inject som gle up betewwen the pad and the hodd and try to hany on to it.

I know with my D1 trying to do a fix to keep it from sagging was impossible. It sagged so low it had the 4.0 melted into it from the intake plenum! Also it was fraying pretty bad. Just another one of those overengineered sound proofing measures done by LR. Like the 100 pounds of rubber backed sound proofing under the carpet that likes to hold water and rust the floor boards! I got rid of that too!

Right now the darn thing sags untill it hits the alternator. I am going to remove it because I don't like the smell of anything burning in the engine compartment. So its off like a prom dress!
