Default Engine Flush

What's the process and what are the opinions?

Some say don't do this because of the sludge can move and damage other parts?

I'm sorry! I thought ATF was for transmission?

Searched Engine flush - can only find references to Mikes 60,000 service, but no detail.

just don't use water through the crankcase like some IDIOT on the mustang forums did...

he actually poured water in his crankcase and then came on the forum complaining that he was sick of the problems the car gave him.

Engine flush is when you use a slovent, ATF or another type of flushing process/agent by pouring new oil and or the cleaner, solvent or ATF (tranny fluid) into the engine (oil) to act as a flushing agent to remove sludge etc...after doing this process new oil can then return to the engine and you are in theory, going to have a cleaner engine.....I swear that thread went on for weeks...the pros and cons of each of the methods...sorry didn't mean to kill the question...

One side of the discussion says that by disturbing the sludge you will have greater problems than if you had left it alone. The premiss being that the gunk finds a new home somewhere else in your engine that it is not welcome in and causes problems, clogging up a tube or inlet(?).

One option suggested using ATF in place of oil for a short flushing period and then oil replaces the ATF. Sounds crazy to me..but some swear by it...

Sorry tend to ramble....

ATF is not a solvent and should never be put in the crankcase. Only motor oil should be put in the engine. If you want a Real flush use Auto-Rx Engine Cleaner Transmissions Motorcycles Stop Leaky Seals Oil Burning Increase MPG Better Gas Mileage Trouble Shifting ARX
