Hey there - so my extended warranty has finally paid off - I just got final approval for a full engine replacement after my oil pump exploded a few weeks ago.
Question 1: is there anything I should have the dealer do while he's got the engine out?
Question 2: is there anything I should point out to the dealer to pay attention to in order to avoid any side effects that might come up as a result of the replacement?
I have a stock 2004 D2 with 47k on it which manages a few times a year to find it's way to some choice offroad destinations around the so cal desert.
Thanks for the help... you know how those delears are, anyone really- they focus on the immediate issue without looking too far ahead. It would be great to take advantage of your hard earned 1st hand experience to help avoid some of the unknown problems that I'm guessing will come up.
Inspect and replace the front seal on the tranny, order and give them a new set of 8 mm Magnacor wires to install while the engine is being replaced, and the rest of the stuff, if they don't know it, you are in trouble.
By the way, are you getting a new or used engine, if used, you want the vinn of the vehicle that the engine is coming from to make sure you are not getting another problem.

What do you mean, "Hopefully", who owns this truck and who's insurance is paying for it???
You might want to get off your butt and find out, this is important.

Just a manner of speaking really. The dealer told me they are putting in a brand new engine that has the problem corrected. Met the mechanic and he seems to be a guy who cares, which is a good sign to me. That said, LR probably didn't mean to make a faulty part to begin with, but I see no reason to trust that this won't happen again.
Mike - curious about the Magnacor's - what kind of difference would I expect to see? Will there be a change in performance, or is it more about long-term durability?
There are none of those early built 03 problem engines left in inventory so it won't open again.
With the wires, you get more voltage to the plugs, around 55,000 volts compared to the small amount your old tired wires can put out, so mare power and a little more MPG
