Default engine ticking??

My 2003 disco has a loud ticking or clicking coming from the engine. It gets louder as you press on the gas and rev the engine. Does anyone know what this could be or how I might eliminate it? I seafoamed my engine this weekend and it did not help this. Thanks.

How many miles on the engine? Do you have an exhaust leak or an internal noise? Does this happen both hot or cold?

It has 30000 on it. It seems like it just started 2-3 weeks ago. Only had it for 4 months. I did notice tonight that when I was checking for leaks, I followed the exhaust pipe to where it connects to the engine, and on one side the bolts were missing where it connects. They where on the other side, but it seemed tight I couldn't move it with my hand. Could it be a bad cat. converter? I take it to the dealer on friday, but last time I told them it was loud to check I don't think they did or they would have seen the missing bolts? Could it be ticking lifters, how can I tell. I am worried about the dealer trying to put off any major repair because the warranty runs out july 1. Thanks Mike.

There is a good chance it is coming from the missing bolts, there is also a possibility that you have an oil pressure problem, some of the 03's did have problems, some actually lost their engine due to an oil pump issue so have your dealer check it out.

Default Check your oil.

Maybe I can help too. What service interval are you using for Oil changes. When I first got mine I tried to do the 7,500 mile oil change interval. This was during the time I had free services. I developed a constant tapping sound that increased with the engine speed, almost sounded like a diesel. I was told I was a quart low and that I should have the oil changed ever 3,000k miles. Now I only get the tap at startup until it reaches normal op. temperature. So check you oil and top off if necessary.

You may want to have a mechanic listen to it, maybe even do an oil pressure test to make sure your oil pump is not starting to fail.

So is the ticking normal at start up because mine sounds like a diesel at start up until it reaches normal temp.; I love the sound when it first starts up, but I just wanna know if its normal

Not normal and since it is a 2003, I would have someone check the oil pressure and pump.
