Default Exhaust Help

I am pulling the following codes; P0130, P0171, and P1171. I have already changed the 2 front O2 sensors. Mech says my cat converter is clogged. Does this seem right?
New plugs n wires @ 62000, OEM air filter. Runnin 91 octane gas.

I guess its possible...you've got two cats on the disco2's the truck wouldnt get out of its own way if one of them was clogged. It would spit and spudder all the time. Im not sure what the codes mean, I'm sure someone can chime in on that. I recently put a magnaflow muffler in place of my factory rover muffler. Sounds 1000 times better and added some power and fuel economy. Debating on removing the resonator. Only cost $100. You might get away with removing the cats. I dont know if the O2 sensors can be disabled on this truck or not.

P1171 Oxygen Sensor System Too Lean Fault Banks A & B

sorry Disco C - I've no idea if this is your cat or something else.

Thats a bad cat. It wont be clogged if the truck is running ok. I dont know how expensive they are to replace. I'd rather have them removed than replaced, if its possible on this truck.

Rotten eggs - dead (or dying) cat. Don't think you can take them out on DII's - messes with the ECU big time.

Any time you get a 0171 and a 1171, those are 2 of the 3 codes usually seem when the MAF is failing, which will also cause the exhaust to smell.
Have you noticed the tranny hunting around either in 3rd. or 4th., a 0734 or 0735 fault, that is the final fault code.
For now don't replace your cat, if anything you are or will be needing a new MAF. Don't try and clean your's, that will usually kill it for sure.
How many miles on the truck now, who's plug wires are you running?
If your mileage is up above 90,000 miles I would also suggest you replace the rear 02's to balance out the banks.

69000 miles. BOSCH plugs n wires (replaced 5000 miles ago). So do you think I should start w/ rear O2's and possibly MAF? Thank you for any insight!

Sounds like a starting point...I got lucky with my MAF and got some cleaner from the parts store and cleaned all the dirt off of the little sensor inside and it helped mine run alot better. I wouldnt normally do this but I figured what the hell and did it anyway. Takes those tamper resistant torx bits, bought them from the parts store as well. I think you can get a new MAF on ebay for under $100 shipped. One from the dealership will be quite a bit higher. I have no idea about the O2 sensors...my disco has 129k miles on it and i've never even thought about the O2 sensors...i've no idea if they've been replaced or not, CEL isnt on so i guess its good.

we have had issues with the oil getting sucked thru the intake gaskets.

you are not using oil are you.

if you are then change the intake gasket.

but its possible you have an actual leak.

The first thing I would do is take it away from the mechanic cause the cat is good for 8 years 80000 miles federal warrantee.

Its possible the cat or the exhaust manifold is cracked.

I would do a smoke test to see if any leaks above the exhaust.

Yes i did take it from the mech when he suggested new cats for $1500! I orginally brought it in to have them look for an exhuast leak. They said they could not find one. He said cat was clogged, that is why it probably sounded like a leak. I have visually inspected cats and manifolds everything seems good. I will clear codes today, take a drive and see what comes back. I dont want to start throwing parts at it but I need to get this figured out.

So I just cleared the following codes w/ a scanner; P0130 and P0171. Drove about 10 miles till SES light came back on. Same 2 codes came back (P0130 & P0171)! Any thoughts?

So I just replaced the MAF and air filter. Cleared the P0130 and P0171. Drove it, CEL back on in three miles. Just P0130. HMMM?
