exhaust in pressurized coolant with leak.

i am at my wits end. a year and a half ago, i replaced my engine on my 01 disco with 115k miles on it because of a #5 dropped sleeve. then, within the year, i started to have those symptoms again- check engine misfire light, foggy exhaust, loss of fluid. I was told that it dropped another sleeve and I left town for a week expecting to return to a new engine. instead, new head gascate (how do you spell that, anyhow) was installed. since then, I returned for a main radiator hose up top. but, i am still losing fluid and it looks like there is exhaust in my coolant (smells funny/like smoke/dull color) and it is under a lot of pressure.

so there it is. I am afraid that the engine needed replaced and they took the "hopeful" route. Or, it is the head gascate. Or, something beyond my limited understanding.

any insight would be greatly valued. If i don't know the landscape when I present for service again, i am concerned that it won't get the serious attention it clearly needs.

It's either a head gasket or a slipped sleeve again. Sorry about your luck, piss off any Gypsy's lately?

head is cracked and they misdiagnosed it.

Unless a full engine was installed then most likely it was a short block.
