Default Fog light issue

Hi All, I am new to the LR world, I purchased an 02 disco SE, and am very happy.

My question concerns the big LR off-road lights mounted on the brush bar, they dont work. The switch on the dash has a picture of a light and is marked with the number 2, ocasionally the switch wil light dimmly, but that it all.

I traced the wiring to a sealed box mounted to the fender by the fuse box, and it appears to be a relay of some sort. The whole system appears to be dealer installed, my question is doies anyone know the pinouts on this relay ? is it a common issue ? at this point I am not sure if its the switch or this box since they seem to feed off each other, any ideas guys ?

Also at idle the power steering fluid bubbles, is this normal ? Sorry for my ignorance, but I am a corvette guy, and this is my first Truck, any advice is appreciated as I really like this disco

thanks in advance

Welcome man!! The bubbles, if it's what I am thinking of, is not normal.. Is the fluid level where it should be? does it have a steering leak?

the level is fine, when I say bubbles, I guess I should have been more specific, while it's at idle, the PS fluid is moving in the resevoir like water in the washing machine, does that make sense ?

I looked all over, and could not find any leaks, I know the discos reputation, but it looks like a lot of gakets and such have been replaced and sealed. It's only got 26,900 miles on it and is in great shape, I was just wondering about the moving PS fluid and the fog light issue.

thanks for the quick reply

If it is just moveing you are fine......... I thought you meant actual large bubbles....... The moveing is just the pressure from the hose! Not sure on the fog light issue.... Never had factory lights on any on the LR's in my family! There are others on here that can answer that!

If the button comes on dim- it's probably a corroded connector in the system somewhere. The secondary lamps only come on with high beams, the 'standard' fogs come on only with the low beams. To replace that harness isn't really terribly cheap, but I do have the kit to replace it all. Best bet is to clean all the connectors and make sure some of the pins in the plugs haven't pushed their way out the backs of the plugs.

Thanks for the grea replies guys.

Muddy Oval: that was one of the things I looked for as far as the connectors, continuity from the lights to the relay is fine, I have power at the switch, but coming out of the box I only had 3.2 Volts. I have a feeling its either the switch or the box, or possibly a short to ground somewhere betweeen the two.

with the low beam-high beam thing, I tried it both ways, not know which was correct ( I dont have a manual) these are LR safari lights mounted to the brush bar.

I have mitchell on demand, but it doesnt have a schematic for this particular circuit.

Can I buy just the relay and switch from the dealer ?

I bought a set of lamps for an 03 that came with that box and wiring harness. I don't recall what the harness and 'box' went for, but I think it was stupid expensive. Since I don't need the harness or anything, I'll make you a deal on mine- still sealed in the bag. Just got to make sure I can find it!
