Default Front Bumper Light Bar Installed

Installed the factory lightbar and a set of Hella black magics last weekend. Very easy install.

Did you use the factory light switch,or toggle kit? My factory switch has been messed with, but could probaly figure out how it goes.
Good looking lights you got there.

Yes, I used the factory switch. I decided to go with the 55w lights so the install would be easier. All I did was splice into the factory wiring.

The Needle hits the vein!

My experience=

I'll just go with Black Magic 55w, it will be o.k. (they came on the rig)

Next I'll go Hella 3000 they are just a little bigger (7") and 100w, boy those look big! Easy Relay install, by the way.

Current, Lightforce 240 100W clear lenses 9.5 inches diameter. I'm actually used to them now! They do light up the joint!

b2c - nice work, they look good on the new light bar.

Thor - the lights on the front of your truck always seems to remind me of Dolly Parton (or a similarly proportioned female)... they're so big you can't help but look at them.

Although... it's part big lights and part fun with photography!

Good morning,

I hope it's OK to ask a few questions re your Hella lamp install. I'm rather an idiot when it comes to mechanical and electrical work.

I purchased (used) a set of Hellas. Not sure of the model but they are 8.75 inches in diameter and have a black metal casing. I also purchased a wiring harness that, if installed properly, will allow the laps to illuminate every other time the fog lights are engaged. The Hellas are meant to be fastened to the bumper or light bar, but since I'm intalling a factory poly "A" bar, they will "hang" from the cross member of the A bar.

My questions are:
How do I remove the bumper to install the A bar?

Should I wire the lamps into the fuse box, existing fog lamps, or directly into the battery?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

My front bumper is trimmed, so removal of the bumper was very easy. All the bolts holding the bumber to the frame are accessible.

I think you first have to remove the fender lining as well as the plastic lining under the bumper, then you can access the bolts holding the bumper to the frame.

Newmerys-

On a D2 there are four bolts attaching the bumper to the frame, and then there are two slide-in type bolts holding the ends in place near the tires. The four actual bolts though are accesible without removing anything. Just get creative, crawl under there on the creeper and a flashlight and you'll see them. The ones on the ends don't unscrew all the way, they just loosen up enough to slide forward. I've got some pics of when I pulled my bumper to trim it so shoot me an email if you want them for a case study.

Built2Crawl-

Are those Jate rings installed? Are they drill through or pre-existing holes? I need some good front recovery points and just can't justify an HD bumper just yet.

Thanks

Default Light Bar

Cool, I did a similar project.... (I'm lazy and tapped into my parking light feed, this lets me throw the Hella fogs on with the parking lights or main head lights on)

A few notes about removing the bumper:

On a stock 02', you'll need a T-25 star screw driver to remove the inner wheel well cover (3 star screws each side). The rest of the screws are Philips heads, and the bottom screw (close to the tire) requires a side angle Philips.

Removing the bumper was not really that hard, getting it back on was a bit more difficult, however I was working alone and still managed to get everything back on nice and snug. Most difficult part was the left side of the vehicle because of the washer fluid tank location.

Attaching the light bar was the easiest part of the job, just work your way up in drill bit size till you get the right hole size. The bolts that come with the light bar are Allen keyed.

It was a Saturday morning type job, if you want it to go smoothly make sure you have the following tools:

T-25 Star screw driver
Side angle Philips head tool
Allen key for bolting down the bar
Various open end wrenches, sockets and wratchets

Yes, they are Jate rings. No drilling, jate rings get installed on the lower set of holes on the frame. New bolts are supplied with the rings.

guys,

Thanks a lot for the advice. I deferred the project until this weekend. I have a poly A bar that I need to install...then the Hellas. I think I'll tap into the fog lights as well.

Bass.

Did you tap into the fuse box or right at the contact for the fog lights?

Thanks again.

Dave
