Default Front Dome Light Issue

I've got a 99' series 2 disco and I have a weird issue. On the front dome light, the light will come on when the doors are opened, however not when switched to the on position. Its truly a pain when I have to open my door at 70mph on the highway to read directions. I am thinking the switch is bad, but let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Sean

if you turn the switch to the full off position, will the lights not come on when you open the door?

When in the off position and the door open, it still doesn't come on, even though the other rear dome lights do. The only time the front dome light works is when the door is open,

I have the same issue!!! When I want the front light on, I can't turn it on - only when the doors are open. On the flip side... I've been hooking up with a few women in my car late at night and had to wait for the damned rear light to turn off after closing the doors lol

Me too. I have experienced the same issue with the front dome light. I even purchased a replacement from the local Land Rover dealer. It was surprisingly inexpensive (under $15 if I recall correctly). The replacement is having the same issue.

I can't think of a MORE uncomfortable truck to hook up in than the Land Rover Disco LMFAO

The only thing I can thing I can think of is, did you get the separate (on a d2, not sure on a d1) ground wire hooked back up to the metal plate behind the light? or possible, the grounding lug (on the light itself) was damaged on re-installation.

The ground lug on the light is held by a nut, that attaches to a metal plate behind the head liner. a ground wire attaches to the plate. if this makes any sense.

Yes, that ground is correct.. Unfortunately. Because you're right, it sounds like a ground issue. I'm starting to think switch issue
