front end rattling noise

Hi guys,

2001 se7, 150000kms/approx 90000 miles, stock suspension, stock everything actually.
When driving at moderate speeds, my truck started to make this rattling noise when going over small bumps (front left side). I lifted up the truck yesterday and checked the ball joints, sway bar links, steering tie rod etc and there is no play. the frequency of the rattling is pretty high, so that means the spring is allowed to play here. I looked at the shock and the bottom part is loose on the attaching cross support...meaning I can move it a quarter of an inch both left and right. However, I could not detect any vertical play...it was cold outside and maybe I didn't have enough force to move it with 2 fingers through the spring. I have read a post here where it was mentioned that the top shock nut can become loose and allow this noise/play.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

without really being there its impossible to tell you what is the problem. noise diagnosis comes down to process of elimination when everything is tight, if you can get a hold of a set of wireless chassis ears you can hook them up to find out where the problem is.
