Thanks for the writeup and pictures, Kevin.

Awesome stuff. Do you mind if I share this information with some Land Rover folks in Australia?

Hi Lawrance,
Please feel free to share the document with anyone that can benefit from it. My intention was to share my DIY experience with all Discovery 2 owners and hopefully help them in their own repair. I have no problems if you want to share it or even post it on other websites, my only request it that this document be provided free of charge and that no person or business benefits from the sale of the document. Happy New Year.

Hevkev, you should really update your document so folks have the correct part numbers, as I mentioned back in Nov.

Hello.

I just found this link last week, I was looking for a rebuild instruction 2 years ago. Any how the junkyard Driveshaft went bad so I'm happy to say that I followed the directions and had no issues what so ever.

Here are my commens about the rebuild:

1. Get somone to help roll the vehicle when installing/removing driveshaft. The shaft can easily be removed in 10 minutes with help.

2. I used a rag spacer to keep the square edge of the u-joint tool from sliding off the angled edge of the double cardon shaft. (When trying to push out the bearing caps, the tool naturally wants to slide off the housing.)

3. HAVE A SECOND SET OF HANDS available when pushing out the bearing caps, and resetting new bearings. With my neighbor assisting, we had all the new caps put back in within about an hour. Itried to take all the caps out by myself, and it took 4-5 times as long as it should have.) Still finished removal in 1.5 hours.)

4. total time < 4 hours. If I had to do it again, it should take 2 hours.

Bottom line - excellent tips, rebuilt the entire shaft for about $50. COMPARE to minimum $300 for a junk part.

Has anyone ever actually seen the center bearing go bad? couldn't the driveshaft just have the u-joints redone and the center joint left (Maybe re greased)? Or is this a major issue not renewing this piece also.

It's a wearing part, like the u-joints are.
