2003 Disc 2 with 120,000 miles. Fuel pump installed is Bosch with pressure release. I have secondary air but Bosch states that this pump is compatible but they also have a pump specifically for secondary air. Must I use the secondary air pump only? Rover runs fine. What is the purpose of fuel pump in regards to secondary air. Can the catalytic converter be damaged by using a pump with pressure release instead? ?
The only difference that I am aware of is 1 pump has a pressure sensor built int it and the other does not.
Does the pump look the same as the one you took out?
To clarify it is a pressure sensor NOT a pressure release
Where are you getting your information from? If you looked at the Atlantic British site or talked to anyone there, they have no clue. Their site actually has the exact opposite information for these pumps. The correct pump for SAI is Land Rover part WFX101060 IT DOES NOT HAVE THE PRESSURE SENSOR on the top. If you try to use WFX101070 with the pressure sensor you while not have the necessary venting hose in your truck for that particular part. If you have SAI you need WFX101060.
Yes, they are two different systems. The idiots at AB are still misidentifying the parts. I brought it to their attention last year and they did absolutely nothing. Now, all they do is consciously avoid calling anything SAI or non SAI.
At least Rovers North gets it. They have WFX101070, the one with the pressure sensor on top listed as NON SAI. With WFX101060 they listed FOR SAI. It's really simple. You don't have to pull up the carpet and unscrew the bolts covering the fuel pump, open the effin' hood. If you have SAI valves and a pump, you have SAI and need WFX101060. It's not rocket science.
On this particular issue AB should be ashamed of themselves.
If I do not have the proper venting hose is performance at risk. Does the the venting hose utilize the secondary air pump to heat the catalytic converter?
I have cut a hole in carpet and swapped fuel pumps. I am aware of the correct pump #60 and realize I have the other pump #70 without the proper venting hose. What is the risk? Where does the hose vent is the question. Does it vent in the secondary air pump which heats the catalytic converter?
Definitely nothing to do with the secondary air injection system and definitely does not have anything to do with the catalyst!
Generally, most vehicles vent to a containment device such as a charcoal canister and / or directly into the engine intake.
The sensor measures tank pressure. Engine control module monitors this sensor value and as required releases pressure from the tank (expansion pressure not fuel pressure)
It is solely Evaporative control emissions system component.
The bottom line is.....
Right is right and wrong is wrong.
Get the right pump for your truck and you will not have to worry about all of these questions
