Hey everyone,
First, thanks to all who post to this forum for all of the great information on these sometimes trying vehicles. Without the support form the people in this forum, a lot of us would have hung our hats long ago. I posted a while back that I might be selling my 99 Disco II. Well, life fixed that little problem for me. Long story short, my wife was hit a few weeks ago and King Kong now lives in a scrap yard, to be parted out a piece at a time. She was hit so hard by a little red sports car that the Disco was spun around like a top. Thankfully, she and our 5 year old were not injured. I went to go get all the stuff out of it, and the entire body was warped through the back and around to the drivers side [she was hit in front of the passenger rear tire]. Lots of damage. Now I'm looking at getting something else to drive. I looked at trucks, since I have to be able to haul our boat to the lake. Right now, I'm driving a friends Dodge Ram 1500. Let's just say that towing with the truck is not even close to towing with a Disco. So, now I'm forced to re-evaluate my options and I found a few Disco II's around. The only good thing about gas prices these days is that I can now pick one up pretty cheap. So here's the question: If I were to find a 2003 Disco II with the 4.6L, what would I look for? In other words, any special considerations/issues? I know I'll have to put a hitch on it with wiring. Good thing I swiped my wiring off the old one. I'll miss those jump seats though, but I guess I could modify one without them. Thanks in advance for the input!! |

I went with 04 just because of the 03's having some engine troubles and they lacked a CDL, which for me mattered a great deal because that is why I purchased mine was to go off-road. Just m.02

My '03 HSE7 has been awesome... It didn't matter to me about the CDL since I knew it was going to be for hauling around the family and some minor towing, not for mods. and severe off-roading... Plus, an '03 was easier to find and cheaper than an '04... The best check you can do is get the VIN and have a dealer run a check in the computer system to see what maintenance was done and when... This is especially nice since Land Rover paid for all maintenance up to 48k miles... It will even tell you if any of the scheduled maintenance was missed... CincyDisco, I sent you a PM with the place I got mine and some more info... Good luck!!! Jonathan |

My disco. has a green metal sticker on the cross bar in front of the radiator with some information on it... I'm @ work right now and can't check, but I think it says something like service campaign... Does this mean anything? I really concerned now... I haven't had any issues with my '03, but now I am getting worried... Should I??? |

All recalls come with the green metal sticker, I have a few on my truck. Generally from what I remember it was early in the engines life that the oil pump would fail... go look on discoweb for more info.
