Default Hand brake grip

Could anyone tell me how I can remove the grip off the hand brake lever.
I've bought polished wood replacement but can't figure out how I get the original off. Its on a Discovery 2

So its just a force fit, no adhesive, clips or screws etc?
How about the leather cover behind the grip is this prized off in the same way as the gear stick covers?

it's clipped into the centre console and held onto the grip by a rubber ring thingy!

Well the twist and pull method would never have worked as the grip is glued to the lever.
Two cuts along the length of the grip and a pair of pliers to roll and twist each section away from the lever is how I managed it. Cleaned off any debris with emery, and glued the new one in postion.

Thanks for responses to original post.
