Read back, I did answer your question of using some treatments instead of doing the repair and suggested you stay away from it.

My repair was covered under the 30 days or my money back. Its hard to want a truck your whole life and buy one that leaves a natural disaster on your driveway the second you return home.

The shocking part was they were good about it, even though it wasn't under warrenty and I didnt buy an extra one. I could have easily fixed it myself (being a heavy duty mechanic) but its the principal of the thing that matters. And I hate working all day to come home to work on my own stuff.

"Chances are that the independent mechanic is way more experienced than most guys at the dealership, because they are usually the old senior mechanic who got fed up the the crap they have to deal with at the dealership and decided to go off on their own."
That was pretty darn close to my story.

I was talking from experience. I had brought my disco to the dealer instead of my regular experienced indy mech, because the head gaskets being a big job, I wanted to make sure that the mech working on it, had experience in working on Rovers, and would, therefore, not forget anything and do things right, since he must have done tons of them right ?!?!

Well, after the HG job during which I had the rockers changed was done, I had a NEW annoying ticking sound. The dealer was telling me that it was normal LR ticking, even if it was much more pronounced than what I was used to hear. Brought it to my indy mech, and he decided to look into it and found that both exhaust manifold gaskets had been installed incorrectly and the fact that the gaskets were blocking approx. 30% of the ports, the exhaust gases trying to espace were hitting the gaskets and causing a ticking sound. Turned the gaskets around, and it is now as silent as a new Lexus...well, kindof

Anyways, went back to the dealer to complain, and they brought the mech who had worked on it in the office to talk about it. It ended up being the rosie cheeks 19 year old kid that I thought was working in the washing bay, that had worked on my truck. He had been out of college since last spring.

Don't get me wrong....I know that some kids have more talent than some older guys. Its just that I had brought my Disco to the dealer for a reason and shouldn't have.

Just a suggestion:

When you do the head gaskets, install new idler pulleys (the stock ones are a joke). Replace your crank sensor. Anti freeze leaking from the head gaskets can and will eventually cause it to fail. (Thanks for the info Disco Mike!)

spent three hours removing every single hose and the bottle and cleaning all the minerals that actually stuffed the entire system after a guy decided to put stop leak in his vehicle.

stop leak is nasty stuff. due to the fact the bottle is chambered it doesnt go thru the system. instead it gets stuck in large chunks inside every single line and radiator, thermostat, heater core. I had to replace the thermostat cause the stuff wouldnt come out. took me quite a while to get the stuff out of the bottle. had to use acid to dissolve the large chunks out.

the small hose to the throttle body was packed full. everypart had to be thoroughly washed and cleaned so it wouldnt stuff up anything else.

oh and he still has leaking headgaskets.
