Either you have a plugged up drain pipe from the front sun roof or a windshield seal leak, either of which should be addressed before the headlinner discolors.

Thanks for quick reply Mike is this condition what would happen with the sun roof tubes blocked? if the windshield seal was leaking its strange its in both corners and the centre section is dry? I will have to have a good look tommorow if it stops raining

thanks again

Most likely it will be the sun roof drains but being a Rover you never discount any possible cause.

I agree with DiscoMike. The other place to look mainly in older models is the seals around the Alpine windows, although as you have the leak on both sides, that would seem inprobable.

they are on either side of the transmission. Also check the drip rails, they have a tendency to leak as well.

under the tranny is the ac drip hoses.

the sunroof drains need to be blasted out with an air hose.

then dump water down the ends to see if its clear.

they drains on the sunroof start on the front in the corners.

take an air hose and blow them out periodically and it works.

if it doesnt need to diag, basically at that point you need to run a hose over it and take down the headliner to see where it comes from.

I know its a lot of work but its the only way to really know whats going on is to remove the Headliner Board and then water test so you can see first hand where the leak is coming from. As long as the drain tubes are free of debris they will continue to drain. In most cases we have found that it is not the sunroof seal; keep in mind the sunroof seal is not designed to keep all the water out, though the drains are the most important to keep clear. Once the Headliner Board has been removed you will be able to remove all 4 drain tubes from the lower tub assembly and blow air down to clear them. If you go from the bottom near the tranny as others have made reference to and blow from the bottom upward if they are blocked you will just clear the tube and next time it rains the debris which clogged the tube will clog it again because you did not remove the debris from the sunroof tub. Always blow air from top to bottom, never from bottom to top.

If I can help in any way just ask, this is all we do for a living here in Central Florida is Headliner & Sunroof Repair. Were also a Sponsor for the Floridalandroverclub.com
