Default Headlights...Brighter

Quick question/general advice (2002 Discovery II). Looking to replace the headlights with brighter versions (current ones seem awful dull particularly in comparison with those on newer vehicles). I am looking for ease of swap out (minimal re-wiring if possible) and no impact on the rest of the Rover's electrical performance (she's getting older and more particular as it is...so am I for that matter). Any guidance on brand/technology to go for?

I have been using a set of 80/100 Watt Hella bulbs for 4 years, they are much brighter, in the low beam, they don't bother people coming towards me and no wiring is required. The thing I like most about them is the are the natural factory color instead of some of these blue replacement bulbs and only cost about $12 a piece.

Mike,
Was there a specific part number for those hella bulbs? Where did you pick them up?

A lot of the newer vehicles are using HID's. It will be hard to try and match that without actually upgrading to HID's. Some manufactures try to imitate HID's by tinting the bulbs. I'm not sure about earlier DII, but the 03-04's don't like Sylvania Silver Stars (halogen bulbs). They normally only last 1-3months in these vehciles, you might have better luck, but they do give a that high performance look but I can't say if they are actually brighter.
This place seems to have resonable, prices it might be worth a look. XenonLink.com HID Conversion Kit.
I was considering it too, but I got some Phillips Cyrstal White and Xtreme power bulbs since I'm using H7 bulbs and you use H4 which is both a high and low bulb.

I can't find the old part number, but I bought them from John at Expedition Ecchange on line. I know many 4wheel shops handle Hella replacement bulbs also.

I'd like to see some video, photos of HID's in the standard Halogen housing.

Last time I seen that conversion on another car, the HID beam reflected off the mirror housing and shone brightly in all directions equally.

Cirious to see how that reacts in a land rover. I too have a 02' Disco that needs more light.

Use the IPF Harness from EE along with Hella or IPF H4s and I guarantee you'll be happy with the result.

Arsell,
I just saw these on E.E., have you heard anything about them?
What sort of life do you think you'll get out of your bulbs?

IPF Super Low Beam XX H4 Bulb Twin Pack (X51) $88

Quantity Add to cart

The IPF Super Low Beam XX H4 Bulb is a H4 bulb that draws 60/80w but produces the optical equivalent of 190w low beam/150w high beam. The bulb's globe is clear and not tinted in any way for maximum light transmission, but the color temperature produced is 3090k. The Super Low Beam XX features a filament stabilizer rod to extend life in high-vibration conditions. Two H4 bulbs in each pack.
