Default Heated windshield question???

Hello....I have an 01 disco II SE...I have a heated windshield and the wires below the windshield above the firewall, they are connected....
But, I do not have the button on the dash to turn it on...did Land Rover put these windshields on non heated vehicles....and if so, what would it require to hook it up and make it function.....Thanks

Not sure about the 01, but the 2000 windshield can be activated with a button, rear & front defrosters and also the automatic defrost mode on the climate control.

I agree, either use the front defroster switch or the main defroster feature of your climate control system.

pre-wire for the windshields is already there up to 04, if you dont have the "windshield defrost" button on the dash (the defrost with the rounded window), then your vehicle was not "equipped" with that option. All you need is the button, find one on ebay, pull the little switch panel, and find the wire harness to plug it into. poof, heated windshield. Same concept as the heated seats, its easier to put everything in and then just leave a button or two out, than to make two different wiring harnesses.

one bad rover,
So are you saying, all I need is the switch and hook it up and it will work?? Also the same with the heated seats??? That would be awesome if this is true with the heated seats!!

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page....

All disco II's are equipped with the wiring for the heated widshield. If your truck came "equipped" with this option, you will have the button on the dash AND (big AND) the actual heated glass (it has little almost invisible wires throughout the windshield). LandRover did not put the heated glass in non-equipped cars. It is very expensive to buy, but you can get it.

hope this helps

Here's a link for the heated seats. $40.00, plug and play.

There's always a chance that a previous owner replaced the windshield, saw that there was wiring, and put in the heated unit expecting it to work. Otherwise, the windshield, even non-factory should work with the defrost option. Buy the switch from eBay, EE, or RoverConnection. Hook it up, and you're done.

Awesome.....Thanks for the link, I've ordered it and cant wait for it to arrive. Having a hot butt will sure be nice to finish off the winter...should have done it about 3 months ago....
So is the windsheild defrost switch, a plug and play install also??? I'm pretty sure it is the original windshield for this vehicle.....I have worked in many body shops and have seen many windsield replacements...there is always evidence of it being replaced and mine shows none.
Thanks everyone for the great advice!!!!!

Also, it definatley has the heated windshield....has many tiny lines running through it...But, I have no switch to turn it on...
