Why are you asking, is your Bosch engine in trouble.
Gems are old engines that can be swapped but only by parts, not an entire engine. They completely different management systems.

Yup, nearest dealer is over 100 miles and NOT user friendly. Especially for a female who is at least moderately auto savy. Do all my own minor repairs. Have dealt with other engines, this is my first Rover adventure.
Have a lead on identical engine with fewer miles(decent warrenty-trustworhty yard). Less $ than dealer wants for gasket and head. Any headaches I might expect in advance?

Unless you dropped a sleeve, you should just need a head gasket repair. No sense in buying a whole new engine if that's all that's wrong. Was it severely overheated? The differences in the two engines are listed here

Buick 215 Rover 3.5 Land Rover 4.0 and 4.6 differences

Never Overheated - Learned a long time age to shut it down before guage goes much above normal and call a ramp truck. Never made red zone!

The Basic Difference Between The 4.0 And 4.0 Bosch Is The Crank Sensor Mount. Pretty Easy To Swap. Grind Off The Spot Welds Clean Everthing And Jb Weld It Back In. It Uses A Roll Pin To Align It .
