Angry Help with rear air bags...

We just purchased a 2001 Disco II SE7. Our rear air bags will inflate and ride sometimes for 50 miles. We shut it off and crank it back up and within a half a mile, the airbags are completely down. We have listened and can't hear any leaking from the airbags. The compressor seems to be running fine, but it does get a little warm. Any help would be great. It's not fun riding with no airbags.

Get a pot, put some dish soap in and mix in a little water. Stir it up until you get a good sudsy mix and daub it on with a bush. Hit all the areas that have pressure: lines, fittings, bags, etc. You will find the leak this way and you'll know where to go from there.

is there any other way the air bags could go down other than an air leak because sometimes it sits overnight and its fine in the morning or i drive for an hour and its fine and it seems like when i shut the engine off then start it up the air bags go down quickly? it just seems like another problem because i dont hear any leaks and the bags stay up for a while without going down then when they do they go down quickly.

I don't know. No experience with them really. I ditched mine as soon as I could.

i would imagine that the movement of the car could reveal momentary leaks. When at rest the leak could "heal" itself. Try soaping the bags up and then rock the car around violently. jump up and down on the bumper also. have someone lie down either under the car or dext to the wheel to look for the bubbles. Make sure they are small enough / you are light enough that you don't squish the person while you are shaking the car.

do this with the car shut off or the compressor will just keep refilling the bags
also you will be more likely to hear any burps of air

It is not your air bags causing the truck to drop. Try and find a shop, other then the dealer, that can access the SLS functions in the ECU, have the codes read, if nothing unusuall shows up then ask them to rest/recallibrate the SLS system, that should handle it>

Same here. Way too unpredictable to me. The thought of being stuck with the ass down some few hours from home on a cold winter morning was enough for me to ditch it the second it went wrong.

Because of the way the bags fold over on themselves, you can oftentimes have a leak that will "patch" itself once the bag fills up, but as soon as the bag is pinched in a certain position, it begins to leak again. Here's a couple things to consider

1. The bags - Arnott inc sells bags with a lifetime warranty for $130 each (last I checked). They're crazy simple to replace.
2. Ride height sensors - There's one on each side and they're pretty cheap. You could replace them in a matter of a couple minutes.

either way, you should stop by a land rover shop when you get the chance to have them scan your computer for SLS codes. This will point you in the right direction.
