Default HELP - Rear Drive Line Clunck/Vib'in - real scary

Somthing back of the rear drive shaft is knocking and Vibrating (passenger side). Sounds just like a CV joint going out ( but there is no CV on the rear axel - right?). When I twist drive shaft back and forth with engine not running and gear in N, the clunck sounds like it is coming from the axel case, not in diff. What is in here that can cause this and is it something I can fix or do I need a pro for this one? Is this maybe an axel bearing, either at the diff or at the wheel end of the axel? Clunck and vib is really bad from 0 - 45 than at about 50 on up it smooths out a bit. Please help all you can ( 02 Auto Disco II 98,000K) Thanks in advance

So, what does your drive shaft look like, how often do you lube the u-joints, does the roto flex have cracks between the six bolts?
I wouldn' drive it, for any reason till you find out what is wrong. Drain the rear diff and look for chunks of metal in the gear oil and on the magnetic plug.
Rover diffs. are know to blow their spider gears.
Have someone spend some time checking it out.

Roto flex looked good, u joint was tight and has been greased. drive shaft tight. oil in filler plug very clear and has amsoil in it. Have not drained it though. What is a spider gear? I am 50 miles from home and 18 miles to the nearest decent shop!
