Default HID Upgrade for 03' Disco??

Is there safe functioning HID upgrade for the 03-04 Disco headlights? I see that Bosch makes some but wanted to hear what you all thought. Thanks!

Do you really want to go to HID. Found that IPF "X" series globes put out nearly as good as light as HID, but cheaper and can still use a standard globe if the globe dies.

are you talking about drop-in's or a kit that turns your standard lights into projectors?

I have been looking for some pictures of stock cut off with HID's dropped in... i have had no luck. The cut off from the beam pattern is really clean right now and seems like it would stay that way even with HID's but i have a 2000 not an 03. Best of luck ill let you know if i find anything.

If you just want regular bulbs that are clearer and brighter, I've got SilverStar's in mine..

Get the "brightest" ones..

They are alot better than stock bulbs fo' sho!

IPF "X" series globes make silverstarrs look like candles, but they are more expensive that Silverstars.

For replacing a H4 type globe, the IPF X51 "fat boys" are excellent. They give a brighter light on low beam compared to high beam. It is low beam that you spend most of your time on.

They come in the various frequency colours. I have had the blue/white type higher frequency type globes and hated them, now I stick to things in the 3,000 to 4,000 range.

I put the 6k in my wifes ML320 and my motorcycle and have really liked the improvement. It's a lot brighter cleaner light easy installation on the kits I purchased. I plan on upgrading the lights on the RRC in the very near future

It's a kit by Xentech. H4 bulbs 6k spectrum the difference is quite literally night and day. Took me about 2 hours to convert and that was because it was a bike. Not alot of useable space for the ballasts to mount up. The ML320 only took 30 min or so.

+1 to ArmyRover, nice!!!

I've been looking for a projector kit that looks factory and not rice (not to diss, just not my thing) and can't find anything. I'd read nothing but great things about the SilverStars on other car forums but had factory HIDs so never tried them till I got the Rover. For the $40, I felt like they were a waste. The light is def cleaner but I don't feel much better than a factory bulb and really not a substitute for Xenon. Maybe I got a bad set given everything else I've read but if you are really looking for Xenon performance I'd go with a kit.

I want a top quality kit and have been a bit skeptical of what I have seen so far. I was thinking of getting the factory RR ballasts and then just getting H7 xenon bulbs. Has anyone gone this way with success?

if you want to know about HID please ask, i completly cut up my last set when i did custom headlights on my last VW GTI. I'm pretty sure i just about killed myself doing this.

The only bad thing about doing drop in's is the light cut off. Next time you see an acura or just about any of the new rovers with projectors look at the beam when it hits the car behind it or a wall. It will look flat on the bottom left then a slight upward angle then level back off. This is so it does not blind other drivers.

Now Acura has been putting HID's behind non projector housing with great sucess in the TL models prior to the new body style. So im not sure if the cutoff that the DII has now would remain the same or if it would become very blurry, this is very important as so it does not look as if you have your brights on all the time.

However, one thing that most people think about with HID's is heat, and the fact that it wont work behind plastic. This is false. They produce much less heat than a conventional bulb and will not melt plastic as long as your regular bulbs do not. One good thing is that HID's last MUCH longer then the regular bulbs, hence the high price. (around 40-60% longer)

If you have any questions (tech. or general) about HID's i will do my best to inform you. For what its worth i plan on doing this down the road, i just dont have time or money right now.
