Default Hot air from vents continusouly?

when driving with the air controls off, there is still hot air coming from the vents. I mean, hot - like if the heater was cranked all the way up. Any suggestions as to a fix? on a 01 disco se7 4.0

Does it seem like the unit is on continuously.

can you switch it to cold air. Like for the AC.

and can you adjust the speed at alll.

It would be like in any other car if you had the heater dial turned all the way to hot, but the fan off. make sense? Kinda wierd. But with the dash controls on, then yeah, everything works fine. ITs just when you turn it all off when driving it still has heat coming out.

Put a test light up to the blower motor to see if it is getting a signal.

if the motor is bad it will turn on the light.

If that doesnt work try disconnecting the head.

You could have a bad head unit that is giving the signal to the motor to stay on.

But can you at least set it to cold air and get the same affect.

In a sense you got two different problems. Fan speed and heat.

If your not really sure get it diagnosed.

There is a cable control on the damper that pops off......I had that problem on one of my Discos.
But on my 2003 Disco I ALWAYS had air blowing out out thru the dash...dealer said thats the way the system was designed to always blow air.

If you talk to Rover about this, you will find that there is a well know problem with the head,(control unit) on D II's from 99 to I believe the 03's. I met with the factory rep after complaining about it to the service manager many times and was told of the problem and they installed a head from an 02, under warranty, trying to correct it. There was a slight improvement but it is still there.
On mine, with the A/C off, temp set to the coldest position, out side air temp at 67, the inside vent air was coming in at 95 to 103 depending on the type of tester was used to verify the temp.
You are probably just going to have to live with it and run the A/c more often.
Good luck,
Mike J.

Default Head Job

On my '01 Disco, air comes out the vent whether the unit is off or on.
So I simply dial in the desired temperature and turn the unit off. That always works.
On occassions the fan blower does not work at all...and then it will suddenly come and blows (if left turned on).
Hmmmm..I am thinking this truck needs a Head Job (whatta truck!).....what better place to take it to then the dealer?

hmm strange....ive never had this problem on my '01 SE DII. Ive had the temp dialed at "HI" this entire winter. Once difference which might be significant is that I always have it set on circulate, always.....perhaps this doesnt allow air to be rammed through?

My heat also comes out when the heat is switched off. I simply turn it down with the unit on and all is well. I think this is the nature of the beast. Or, you can also just close the vents...

well im glad to know that im not the only one with this issue. Ill try to set it to recirculate and then shut it off to see if that keeps the vent closed, otherwise ill just live with it. hmmm.

Jman,
Do you have your owners manual, I believe they spell out a self test procedure you can perform to se if there is a fault code stored.

Hey today I set it around 70 and placed it on my feet and shut it off. This stopped the air from coming out of the vents. I doubt it is a head issue. I think it is just the nature of the beast. My truck runs great....

I have been able to get this to stop in my 03 DII by putting it into econ mode then selecting the air vent to top vents only and power it off. This prevents the hot air from flowing to the lower vents or any vents at all for that matter. That is the only combination I have found that works on my 03. And your right its very anoying but don't worry my wife's Mazda 6 has the same problem. Boy they can make em pretty and go over anything but they can't fix a damn ac.

top vents meaning defrost, or chest level vents?
