Default Hot Seat

Mornin' All...first post. I'll get fotos up as soon as I find a disc for my ancient Mavica. In the meantime, my wifes '01 DII driver seat bottom heater gets so hot you have to turn it off or burn the back of your legs. Any ideas as to the problem? I'm on a retirement income now so I can't do the "replace parts until something fixes it" routine. Also, has anybody successfully removed that rediculous SAI sytem? I did the head gaskets on hers last summer and all those hard rubber and metal lines really made it a chore, especially getting the coil pack bolted back in.

Mine did the same thing and then quit working. It is more than likely the heating element in the seat. Other people have had it burn a whole through the leather. It isn't a terrible job, if you've done heads, you can do this.

Same here. I took the leather off my seat and it had burnt a hole in the foam and almost burned through the leather. Mine also stopped working after this. Any idea who sells a replacement element?

If you search around on discoweb.org there is a tech section on replacing them. There is also a guy on there that sells them.

If you're seat is getting hot, I would suggest that you stop using the heater. Mine did this and after only couple short times being on it burned the foam AND screwed up the leather.

As far as a fix goes you'd have to be able to "skin your seat" I'd just take it in, ask a body shop who does this sort work them and avoid the stealership because they sub this work out anyway- at least mine did.
